True, true.

And ffs, it's not even a 'ball' it's a damn egg!

So from now on, it's not called football, it's called throwegg.

yeah, besides superbowl isn't a sporting event, it's a marketing event.

yep, football and throwegg, rofl sounds a lot better than soccer and american football, i might actually consider wathcing a sport called throwegg, :p even though they did rip off footballs name

ahahah, dont you just love the European majority in this thread!!! :D

Enjoy it while it lasts guys!!

Oh and I kinda agree, you Americans really should have thought up of a name for your sport instead of stealing ours. :hmph:

:p

Throwegg sucks!!! I would much rather watch some hockey...

Throweggs doesnt really suck, I like footbal better, but throweggs is kinda cool to :)

Considering its rooted heavily in rugby I find this thread ironic. :D
Also football "umpires" are called referees, not umps.

AFL? NFL??? wtf... cant u just watch non commercial sport like UK football.. (well its still commercial but not hardly as much)

Bah, everything is commercialized. Money makes the world go round.

Stuff can't really afford to be on TV unless theres some commercial element anyway. So everything has at least a little commercialization.

The AFL is sh*t. Why would anyone watch that? It's a bunch of NFL rejects trying to play football.

And it's stupid to say that the American term "football" is wrong and the European term is right. That's like an American telling a British person that they drive on the wrong side of the road, or vice versa.

I would love to agree with you... but in this case I would have to say I think your very very wrong.... :p

Football has been arround for one hell of a long time. American Football hasnt....

I dont mind it being called Football. But I think its right you appreciate our culture as well. :)

Forgive me for misunderstanding, but how does calling a sport here in the United States "football" undermine our appreciation for your culture?

Oh I dunno, I guess it was kinda a stupid comment really... I knew it was worded badly, I didnt know what to write to be honest. But thats what I wrote.

Btw whats got you so worked up today? You have been kinda stressed in several of your posts.

I have a lot of respect for English culture. Of course I respect your right to call it football, especially considering that's what you've always called it. I was just responding to certain people saying that the only real football is European football. I really don't think it matters what you call it, and said telling someone that the name of their sport is incorrect is similar to telling someone in a different country they drive on the wrong side of the road.

And you referring to me in the last post? I don't think I've been too worked up today.

I was refering to Steelwind. But I think hes ok.

Anyway, yeah, I dont really know why I posted that to be honest.

Just one of those "Seemed like the thing to do at the time" things...

Either way, glad everyones happy now :)

Neway, Gota go sleep, cyaz!

Nah, not stressed. Well maybe. Spent two months on a case and finally closed today. Guess I've been a little wound up lately. The 'other' thread you're referring to just hit me the wrong way. Then of course people take your response the wrong way because you can't convey the same emotions and emphasis in text that you can in speech. Then some people are just clueless.

aussie rules for ****s sake, i didnt realise that there was an american AFL, sry

and aussie rules is much better that any of the crap you play overseas :p

i should have mentioned this earlier

if we are going to call football throwegg, and shouldnt we start calling hockey stick-puck? Does "soccer" really make that much less sense than "hockey"? its just a name, and honestly, i think a name like soccer or hockey is better than a contrived name like basketball or football.

soo, a little research, and it appears american "football" is a direct decendent of european "rugby union football", and adaptation made to international football at some school called rugby school....that sport then split and went on to become "rugby(europe)", and american "football".

huh, it appears at the time of rugby union's creation (about 1830), football was most commonly played where you could pick the ball up and carry it.

heh, an interesting read about football:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Football

anyway, honestly soccer is a much better sport than football, if you want something like football you are better off with hockey, lacrosse, or rugby.

And in any case, if a country was the first to invent driving one side of the road it would have every right to tell others that they drive on the wrong side.
