And Kofi is playing a large role.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6631989/

His son was recently called out on taking bribes from a company dealing with the Oil For Food Program. Kofi says he has no control over his son, but where is his control over the corruption of the program that allowed Saddam to reap in large amounts of money?

“No one would ask Ken Lay to reform Enron. You can’t ask Kofi Annan to reform the United Nations,” he said.

Two weeks ago, Coleman’s Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations said it had uncovered evidence that Saddam’s government raised more than $21.3 billion in illegal revenue by subverting U.N. sanctions against Iraq, including the oil-for-food program.

Annan was affecting a business-as-usual attitude. On Wednesday he urged Wall Street financiers to support the global campaign against AIDS.

Maybe the money you squandered in Iraq could have gone to this cause, eh Koffi? Nah, its just better to take it all from the 'uncaring' Americans.

UN = bad
US = worse

The UN is useless, it's just a means for super powers to impose decisions on weak countries.

can the UN issue a resolution warning the US to withdraw Iraq or face a military assault? no. but they did that to Iraq when Saddam invaded Kuwait.

The UN has absolutly no power. the super powers use it to impose stuff ..
they want Iraq, Iran N.K. to stop thier nuclear and WMD projects, but what about Israel? forget about it, it's backed by the US.

When the super powers disagreed about Iraq, the US told the UN "screw you!" .. and they went ahead without the UN.

What's the UN useful for anyway?

aye jack chirac is also in on this scam, and the french police cant do a thing about it...

i hate jack chirac anyway

It seems like a really nice coincidence that these UN "scandals" have just recently begun to surface... and isn't it just hilarious that Bush, of all people, is accusing someone of an oil scandal?

its called and investigation, theytake time. but this just proves that the UN is useless, and needs to be rebuilt from the ground up. notice that all the "super powers" that disagreed on Iraq all were part of teh scam? so i guess it was ok for us t go in. and no need to bring in isreal

I'm sceptical because these news have suddenly started to appear out of nowhere, and appaerntly they are only reported by one or two websites.

What scam? Going to Iraq was a pisspoor idea, everyone knows that.

Hahhaa yeah a few websites being CNN, MSNBC, and FOXNews.

THe UN is not useless, it's still a very young organisation, and a incredibly big one, it is not there to police the world, it is a place where countries can talk out there problems out instead of fighting, and can also talk about al kinds of other problems, it also can make very objective reports, you can compare it to this forum, a place where corrupt rightwinger dicks and assholes can talk to corrupt leftwing pussies, if you see of how much different members teh UN is made up of and how different they are it is working remarkbley well. You people have a real childish and simplistic point of view on world politics.

The UN has no army, or power itself. It's the nations of the world that must help the UN. Don't blame UN, blame the nations.
