The largest increase is Africa, which will grow from 1 to 3.6 billion

Some examples I found interesting:
Population change 2010 to 2100
Nigeria: 162 - 730 million
Zambia: 13 - 140 million
Tanzania: 45 - 316 million
China: 1340 - 941 million
India: 1220 - 1550 million
USA: 310 - 478 million

Lots of f*cking going on in Zambia, by the looks of things.
 
I don't care, I won't be alive then. Gonna suck for everybody though. Hopefully by 2100 we'll be off the planet and expanding into the stars.

How are they expecting China to reduce their population by that much? Is the one-child policy going to have that much of an effect?

Yes. In fact, the human population will dwindle to ~2 billion. The other 11.1 billion will be corpses that were re-animated during WWIII to serve as grunts. Ultimately it will be better for the planet, since there are not nearly as many humans as there are today and zombies don't consume very many resources.
 
Youre forgetting all the animals that will increase in size with all the ambient radiation. Mega-cows will feed us all but giant moles will be a problem. They will eat all our vegetables and build the underground city of Uz'bagnes, which will be the capitol of the mole empire

Experts in demography are well known for overlooking massive glaring factors that any random dude off the internet might recognise.

Yeah there was no scaremongering there. The UN stats are rather dry and the NY Times article was also very restrained.

They have those, they just leave out the contraception much of the time. Abstinence isn't exactly a foolproof method.

Yeah that will work. "Just say no" to the virus might also work. Viruses probably dont infect people who do not invite them in, just like vampires, as that would be rude. People sticking their head up their ass would prevent teenage smoking, so I am now an advocate for that brilliant idea

Actually, it is - the problem is that abstinence only education doesn't give any information about what to do if you do have sex.

Abstinence is the best, easiest, safest, and cheapest method of both birth control and STI prevention.
 
No the best is full on boy-in-the-bubble, you will not die as you have never truly lived!

Right, that's what I meant to imply. It's obviously the most effective method, but teaching it exclusively without an eye to preventative measures should basic human nature kick in is ****ing braindead.
 
This sounds like garbage, how the hell does Nigeria's population explode over the next 89 years? As of right now a large chunk of their population is malnourished so I'd be pretty interested in finding what kind of magic enables them in the next 89 years to support three quarters of a billion people.

The implicit, and possibly questionable, assumption behind these numbers is that food and water will be available for the billions yet unborn, and that potential catastrophes including climate change, wars or epidemics will not serve as a brake on population growth.
