This isn't my problem, but it is my friends, he just bought Half Life 2 via CD version and he is having this problem..

Description Of Bug:
I loaded the game and started it up, it goes past the valve intro screen and a little legal disclaimer screen, then starts at a fuzzy loading screen, with the word loading in a black box. After a little while of waiting the computer makes an "error" beep and soon goes to a pure black screen with a little white flashing text bar in the very top left (DOS style, except you cannot type). At that point the computer is frozen completely and I have to restart.
I've tried it three times and my specs are up to snuf as well.
I tried running garrysmod (7a) as well, I get the same bug, but this time, I can make it to the menu and select to play, but then as it goes to loading I get the bug.
