I just got a new pc not too long ago and just recently it just crashed totally. It just totally froze... then i try to reboot and right when it gets to the windows Xp pro load sign it throws me to an error stating that there is an "Unbootable_Disk_volume or something, then i restart in the computer using the last known good settings that worked... Didn't work. I tried safe mode.. same error, same options. It states "Try using last known good settings" but I've been going in circles with that option. Can anyone help?

Run the Dospromt and then run ScanDisk me guesses. Sounds like you got some faulty clusters on your disk.

If the volume can't be booted then that's it. Running a dos prompt is impossible without a dos boot disc because XP is dos free - plus the fact that scandisk doesn't work on ntfs partitions.

What I suggest you do is boot from the XP CD, go to recovery console and type
Code:
map
This will show you what device name is used for the disc that isn't working. Then do
Code:
fixmbr [devicename]

Are you sure that the disc isn't knackered?
