Unique desktop crash problem

Counter Strike source runs fine. In fact, it runs better than fine.

What causes it to crash is when I run the Video Stress Test. The memory address error, to be specific.

I'm at wits end already with this...any suggestions (that Counter Strike 1.6 fix doesn't work for me)

Windows XP Home SP1
DirectX 9.0c
Amd Athlon XP 2600+
512MB DDR 2700+

56K dialup internet

I should mention that I copied the precache files from another computer. Don't even want to think of how long it would have taken me otherwise.

Also, I have found that the only map that successfully runs is De_dust. the audio test map does this as well.
