Which would explain Doom's easy claim to the top spot this weekend. According to distributor Universal Pictures, roughly 59% of the audience said it had played the video game.

About 46%, in fact, said they turned out for the movie because of the game.

"Well, that's one way to get the young males out of the house," says Nikki Rocco, Universal's distribution chief. "Now if we can just get them some dates. Maybe people aren't dating anymore."

so that is Nikki Rocco's view on the average gamer: "geeky guys who don't leave the house."

pfft, little does he know that I live in a dorm! haha i don't live in a house... hehehe...

We give him money and he insults us.

That's just like getting slapped by a nun, you don't expect it.

He? Isn't Nikki a female name? You know a female can be chief of universal studios too...

Oh wait it IS a female. And SHE slapped us in the face after giving our money to her. What a bitch.

C'mon, it's not the most innacurate generalization ever

I know it's more a generalization than not, but do they think that the 'Video Game Industry' will start getting then bigger bucks with movies?

She's right for me right now..I only go out of the house for work :(

And people wonder why gamers have such a horrible stereotype.

Though the movie might not recoup its $60 million budget, Rocco says, the film probably will become profitable on DVD and cable.

"This is an investment," he says. "We knew when we spent this money that it was going to have a life outside theaters, particularly on home video. This is a strong start."

He's a he...and an ass.

I will definitely never see that movie, I will do my absolute best to prevent all my friends from seeing it as well all because of that statement, I'm sure that If I posted the same thread on other forums people will do likewise.

I will definitely pirate this movie and sell tons of illegal copies of it!*Just kidding.. sweatdrop*

How dare he insult us like that! Let's complain about it on the internet! We'll show him who doesn't leave the hou--...oh, shit. :(

Funnily enough, I actually took a date to this movie.

My date is buying me a pirated DVD of the movie.

Sweet irony/justice/revenge/etc

I'm certainly not going out of the house to watch it!

Never read forums when in an open plan office!

Even if he was standing at the bottom of the steps leading to my house, I'd still not go outside in order to bitch slap him. He's not worth it.

meh who cares what this dumbass says ..this is a "suit" we're talking about. He's probably never touched a game in his life. His job is to make money not think; they leave that to the creative people

one would think that after investing in a game turned movie, these suits would have done their homework on how gamers are really like...but i guess thats too much to expect.

nah they dont care ..they dont research this sort of thing, the production company does that before hand ....all they care is about opening weekend ..if the name alone can draw the crowd that's all they care about ..they dont care about quality, acting, effects, directing etc ...for all they care the movie could be 2 hours of blank tape so long as the theater is packed on opening weekend
