I started Uni resently and I am using the network provided in my flat to connect to the internet. Anyway basiclly I seem to be stuck, I can't play games online or anything. Whenever I use the firefox I need to type in a user name and password. I also had to setup a proxy server for this also. Is there anyway I can like set my whole computer to use a certain proxy, userid and password whenever I use the internet? This way I will be able to login past games screens and actually be able to connect. Anyone understand what I am trying about?

i feel you're pain and would also like to here any good solutions

I dunno, but basiclly every packet that is sent is checks for an ID and password, asuming you even have the correct IP to direct the packets to the right location to even get a reply. Anyway, basiclly you need some globle computer thingy that will automaticly configure your whole computer and every packet it sends with your ID and password. Well at least I think I do anyway :D

Your not by any chance at Teeside University are you?

Sounds like you need to call your uni IT department, or whatever they're called... from what I hear, Unis all have different crazy network setups, so you'll need to contact someone who knows what they're talking about to get a good answer.

Start - Control panel - Internet options - Lan settings - Enter details in proxy settings box and click ok :)

Hmmm, doesn't seem to be working. I was trying that when I posted this on the forum. I have tryed the manual and auto config. None of them are working like Firefox, but yet I am using the same information. Hmmmm.... I will try my Linux login or something. Would you believe I actually have a windows and Linux login. Checkout the login name:

great.... trying that all this time is starting to hurt, not to mention my password is just as stupid, its also case sensitive. ARRGGHHHH!

Unlucky :( there must be a prog that you can get that manages proxies for the whole pc. I'll look about for you. And btw, my uni login is dodgy too!
