Unlocking Kits?

How do i do this? I've gotten two silver stars and i'm now a first private or whatever, but i still can't get into my kit. Also, do the medals mean anything? If i get the sniper award am i more accurate then?

awards don't do anything of the sort, merely for your own "awesome I got skills" factor.

weapons can be unlocked with ranks, but not EVERY rank will unlock a weapon... just keep at it

I think it'd be cool to have your rank in a small icon above your name in-game, so if you see a Master Sargeant or something, he gets a bit more respect

is there any info on how many kills you need for each rank? I'm 4/5 up to the next rank, and i have the 'spec ops pimp of the year' award now.
