Unnamed?

I want to know why I see a bunch of people with their name as "unnamed". I have no idea why that would be their name. I searched it up and some guy said it happened to him and that he had a name but it showed up as "unnamed". I'm just curious, is this a bug, or do people like using that name? I see quite a few of them.

"Unnamed" is actually a quite popular name in the US. I think it was 8% of all males born in last year were named "Unnamed" by their parents. I read somewhere it's long for Rob.

Opps, I forgot to specify. I meant in games such as Counter Strike and HL2: DM. Dumb me, oh well, but then again, thats my name! I feel dumber than usual now.

Because "Unnamed" is the default name.

I thought the default name was your Steam ID. I know in HL2 DM, I never put anything for my name but it shows my Steam ID name.

Nah, unnamed is definately the default. If you remove 'unnamed', then yes it will revert to your steam id, methinks.

I thought the default was 'player' maybe thats only Counter Strike though?

I noticed the amount of people with this name as well, it annoys me as well, cos its not original or funny or clever or anything. Its just boring...i dont understand the motives behind people that use it. I don't think there is such a bug.

I don't think it's malicious for most people y'know. Some people just don't bother changing it. Plus, relax ... it's not affecting you that much surely (also, try playing on other servers!)

I was back in there and I didn't see a folder, It was in my cfg.
I used wordpad to edit half life2's config, and I saw unnamed in there but... I've never gone online since I re-installed it yet so I haven't changed it yet.
