Raising the bar  I just got that!

Like a crowbar

Damn, i'm slow

Amazon has 12th of October as well!

Ohh giddy up!! This is all looking very promising. :bounce:

Don'y count on that, nothing is official yet. Keep checking the main page, I'll post when they give a concrete date

Should i send a email to the valve dudes asking if its a paperback or hardcover? It really matters to me. Its not like i wont buy it but just makes it feel more like a book and not just some strategy guide.

hmm.. under description why does it say it un-veils secrets and such?
i thought this book was strictly a look at HL1/HL2 behind the scenes with 1000+ screen shots exclusive to the book and tons of interviews etc..

have i mis-understood something here?

wait, is the release coming after or before the book release?

* praying it is before

Ya thats why i said the summary on the eb site is wrong.

From the interview its about 70% pictures with 30% text. 1000+ pictures. 360+ pages and MAYBE hardcover. Its also suppose to be limited print.

They said a few weeks/month before the game comes out.

They also said it will have a lot of spoilers so watch out.

I was just at eb and was told that i cannot pre order a book... goofs

I preordered it at Gamestop, might want to check there.

Oh and should i email them asking if its a hardcover or not?

The interview said that it was hardback and it'll be out 2-4 weeks before the game comes out.

EDIT:
David Hodgson said:
Doug had some really cool plans for how a "coffee table" style book would work, and we ran with the plan of making a history of Valve, plus an art book, and merging them together into a tome around the size of a phone directory, but with a hardback cover and glossy paper.

David Hodgson said:
The Raising the Bar book, however, is something Prima hopes to release 14-30 days PRIOR to the game shipping. .

(You know, I really remember this interview saying "2-4 weeks" instead of "14-30 days")

thanks for that :)
i was confused to the point where i thought i had made that 1000+ screen shots part up or something... ;)

plus, wasn't it supposed to be called "The Making of"
instead the title is "Raising The Bar" hmm.. confusing.. :p

I hope so. What made me really wonder is Barnes and Noble saying its a paperback. They are one of the most respected book stores.

Ya i heard it was suppose to be "The Making of half-Life 2" Which i didnt like because it was all the valve games. hl2 would take up about 50% of the book everything else was hl1 cs etc etc.

That was probably a working title.

Also, I've updated my post above.

Who should i email asking about the book? Does anyone have the email to David Hodgson or someone at valve that might be able to help.

Same emailed them about if the book will be hardcover.

I just checked amazon.com and they say they will ship the book within 2 to 3 days.

its probably not right but i wanted to let you guys know, oh and its also cheaper.

Naw man, that's from the time you order it once it's available to the public to the time you receive it in the mail. It has nothing to do with the release date of the book.

I think they refer to some of the pictures in the book as being spoilers.

Stop and think about it.
If Valve won't let PC Gameplay or whatever magazine that has "the first HL2 review" release a few screenshots of the game because it reveals too much about the game,
then why would they allow a book about "how the game was made" be released before the game is out?

jimbones said:

It will be released 14-30 days before the release of the game. At least, this was the plan.

I think everyone should take five and catch their breath. So far the only information we have on the book is from the writers own mouth (or keyboard if the interview was electronic). Some of the questions in this thread are already answered in that same interview, such as the mention that the book will be hardcover, may be a limited edition, and that they plan to release it a week or two before the release of the game.

People, please stop emailing Valve with frivolous questions (especially about a book that I doubt they have any involvement in publishing, these emails should go to Prima), and just let them finish the game (crunch time).

I would say that the majority, if not all, of the dates from book retailers are about as accurate as dates from gameshops regarding the release of HL2. Just wait for an official release, not much else to it.

I was hoping their would be a 'Fighting Fantasy' style HL2 game inside!

You reach a junction. Do you want to turn left (turn to page 67) or right (turn to page 189)?

This is what Cliffe had to say:

cliffe said:
The book actually fills in a lot of the gaps between HL1 and HL2 and explains HL2, rather than spoiling a la "this is what happens at part x in HL2."

Hello

I recently read an interview regarding the book Half-Life 2: Raising the Bar - A Behind the Scenes Look
(http://www.primapublishing.com/catalog/display.pperl?0761543643). I have only managed to find mention of this book on US websites. Will this book be
available to purchase in the UK? If so, what's the expected price and date it will become available?

Thanks,
David Featherstone

Instead of bombarding Prima with e-mails, I can answer your questions. I do all the direct dealing with Prima, and know pretty much all there is to know about it.
