Whilst searching for stuff on Mr Derren Brown, i came across this on the C4 website

watch the video of it, it is really quite interesting how the psychology of this trick relates to belief systems

Is anyone (UK) gonna try out the live seance tomorrow night? I know Derren Brown is a showman psychologist, but it is always fun to be manipulated!

I suggest you find out. The stuff he does is incredible really....

But my friend mentioned the seance thing to me yesterday, and we're going to try it out.

What do you mean 'besides nothing'? He is a psychological illusionist; if i showed you a video of a magician doing some tricks i doubt you would pass of their occupation as doing nothing :/

He studied hypnotism a lot, as well as magic (No not wizards etc, but magic as in creating the illusion). He is very good at influencing people, so good in fact he isnt allowed in several casinos and I believe, Las Vegas.

I thought he was banned from every casino in the UK? Something like that anyway. He gave away his card counting secret but i think the chances of anyone pulling off his technique are very slim
 
I'm gonna be watching the live Seance on monday night (not sunday) because it looks interesting, I saw him messing around with the gun on his last live event and thought it was cool, although I have to say I was hoping for him to get it wrong... i'm a bit twisted like that.

He is nothing like David Blane.


They did a live show where he played russion rulet (I cant spell so I typed how it sounds :P)


The idea was that someone put one bulet in the gun for him and he asked them:

Is it in the first chamber?
Is it in the second chamber?
Is it....
etc.

For all six chambers.

Now once he asked these questions he decided which chamber the bulet was in. (Not telling us of course)


He then put the gun to his head and fired. Nothing. (Obviously hes still alive :P)

Then he fired again I believe.


He then aimed the gun at a sandbag and fired thinking the bullet was in that chamber.


It wasnt....

(Note he looked kind of pissed at that point, unsuprisingly....)


After a while I believe he pulled the triger once more at his head and then aimed it at the sandbags and fired. It went off.

You completely misunderstood Para.

You are also selectivaly choosing things to argue about rather than looking at the whole picture. Don't take things out of context so much because it only distorts the picture.

This guy was able to go to a dog track, pick a ticket up off the floor and claim the price money even though it wasnt even from that run. No one said he has any kind of magical powers, but he is very good at influencing people and "reading their minds" from every little action they take.

David Blaine is just an illusionist. Hes good at what he does, but no i don't worship him.
 
Don't be so naive. It's called television. People on television will do these sort of things and claim it's real. And do you honestly believe the networks would have taken the slightest chance of having a man blow off his head on prime time tv? the gun was rigged and so is everything else.
 
Very well....I tried to be reasonable but if you are going to call me naive for no particular reason then i won't even bother.
 
It's an expression for crying out loud. Okay let's admit he does have these tremendous powers, he can influence other peoples' wills and what not. But riddle me this batman: do you really believe that he has taken the chance of splattering his brains all over prime time tv? a simple yes or no.
 
There was actually a delay between making the film and putting it out on telly.


It was about 10 - 20 seconds or something. So that if something did go wrong they could take it off the air.




And he is nothing like other illusionists in my opinion. Look at the things I showed you. Look at the website. Read about him. Then answer.


Because at the moment your baseing your arguements on opinions not any evidence and your not considering anything we put forward.

And what is that all about? what evidence are you talking about? You're telling me he's special and I'm telling you he's not. Who cares? No one's on trial here lol :E

I dont *think* you understand the whole concept of what he does.

He uses phycology to do his tricks.

You really have to see what he does to understand. Its not like other things you might have seen.

I mean its no wonder you dont believe david blane can do all that shit.

Unlike David Blaine, Derren Brown doesn't make out that it is all hocus pocus, he makes sure that the viewers know that it is all psychological. There are a couple of videos on the site where he does a 'trick' which you can do with him, and then he explains how he manipulated your mind into doing what he wanted it to do.

About the Russian Roulette, there were reports that the ammunation wasn't live, but we'll never know! Anyhoo, he still got the chamber right, it was just a simple guessing game with an air of suspense
 
Guys, the russian roulette was faked. He even admitted it himself a few days after it happened.

David Blaine does alot of interesting tricks and such.. Does he fake stuff?

but what i cant stand in these people that say they can comunicate wth the dead.

has anyone seen that david van prage or some bullshit, biggest poof on telly. i cant stand this stuff, i dont like seeing people tricked by this crap, all those people are scamers out to con people out of there $200 entry ticket. they prey on people that have gone through a terible thing like a family member dieing and he passes on vague messages giveing them false hope.

i might be slightly of topic here but it reminded of those scumbags
 
Yeah, thats the thing about what Derren Brown is doing tonight.


In his advertisment for the program he says "Dont worry if you dont believe in the spirits... Neither do I. Thats what I think should hopefully make this an interesting show"

Thats not precisly right. But you get the picture... He manipulates people. Thats his trick. And its very impresive on ocasions.
 
They did use blank rounds he admitted it. But have you atually seen what a blank round does to a skull at that close range? It's just as bad as the real thing.
