Oh boy.

-- New Maps for Onslaught Mode: Several new and never-before-seen environments for the new and mega-popular Onslaught mode, created by the masterminds at Epic Games, are being added. New maps will include never-before-seen areas as well as previously released maps created for Windows XP. Onslaught is an epic-in-scope team-based challenge that pits two teams in bitter warfare across massive terrain maps in a frag-filled battle to destroy, capture and hold key power nodes. Vehicles play a major role as war-hardened flying and driving machines transport combatants to the "front" and serve as mobile platforms to launch devastating attacks on the enemy.

-- New Vehicles: Three new vehicles are being added for Onslaught mode to help gamers tear up the countryside and bring their enemies to their knees. New battle machinery includes the Cicada, a two seat air vehicle; the Paladin, a deadly new tank that includes a player-oriented directional shield; and the Self Propelled Mobile Artillery (SPMA), a long-range artillery vehicle with a deployable hovering spotter camera.

-- New Characters: Six new characters crafted by Epic Games will join the bloodthirsty lineup of techno-gladiators for players to choose from and play as, including two MetalGuard mercenaries, two Mecha Skaarj and two Necris characters.

-- The Best Community-Made Game Modifications: Unreal Tournament 2004 boasts one of the most robust player communities in all of video games, and, with the tools included game, this community is able to alter gameplay and in some cases, completely change the way Unreal Tournament 2004 is played. Epic Games' "Make Something Unreal" Contest has been challenging this community to bring their mods to a professional level and the community has answered the call. Epic has selected the best of the best, and those AAA community-made games will be included in Unreal Tournament 2004 - Editor's Choice Edition. With several new and unique ways to play Unreal Tournament 2004 fans of the series both new and old are in for a huge variety of gameplay experiences.
And it's all free free free for UT2004 owners! EPIC ARE GODS!

Heheheheheh..

I might just buy this game at long last. I am beggining to see what all the fuss is about.... :D

Bwhahaah! I knew buying UT2004 would pay of!
/me donces.

WoW! When I started reading this thread I thought It was going to be some kind of an expansion pack for ut2004, but wow! It's free!!?!

When is it due for release?

Just to point out, it's free for UT2004 owners. It'll retail for $39.99.

Wonder if I could send them my UT2004 DVD and have them send the Editor's Choice Edition DVD back?

No need, just download it.
Yeah, though it would be kinda nice to have it on the DVD :)

Ah well, I guess I can always burn it on one when I'm finished downloading.

Isn't this just to combat Doom 3?

:O

I don't know why they'd need to do that.
Its kinda like releasing a new line of boats to combat recent advances in airplanes. DOOM doesn't hold a candle to Unreal's multiplayer.

Ohhh ya, well valve charged for updated maps of a 6 year old game!
What? Epics are free
DAMN YOU VALVE!!!

wouldn't get too bent out of shape about CZ. After all CS was mod, and is still free for HL owners. The community has done well to get this much mileage out of it. CZ didn't exactly break the bank, and gives valve an incentive to keep working on CS.

As for Epic and Unreal, well they do this all the time, even Unreal 2 got a massive bonus mp feature XMP which was great. Its nice and it keep interest in the product as well as possibly bringing a few fence sitters.

Well, graphics aren't anything. And doom3 can't compete with ut2k4 in the mp department, since doom3 is sucking at that.

Wow, that's VERY nice of Epic, I think I have to buy the game. And I think the UT2004 graphics are fantastic. :D

meh, still undecided whether I'll buy ut2004 (Red orchestra would be my only reason - although this is an excellent bonus from Epic). Just cant get into it because the gameplay is so repetative (onslaught is nice but becomes boring after awhile). I bought UT2003 and I think I played online once or twice ...just not that exciting ..***n and gun has been done to death. Objective/class based games have ruined online gaming for me. Bought BF Vietnam and I think I played it maybe 5 times ...it just gets so old so fast. Online multiplayer needs a kick in the ass; hopefully HL2mp will be wearing steel-toed boots.

UT does have objective based gameplay. It's called Assault. :D
With all the modes and maps in the game I can't really see anyone calling it repetitive.

sorry I meant:

onslaught = Assault

ya I tried it but It just got boring after awhile ..the objectives tend to result in the same sort of gameplay: tug of war between resources

Rtcw Et in comparison is much more fleshed out and adding classes ensures that gameplay will be different everytime you play it

Yeah, but people don't explode in ET when you shoot them. :D

sure they do ...if you use a panzershreck ...

from what I remember they didnt have exploding bullets during ww2 ...it wasnt till Kennedy that they became popular ;)

It sounds like you are still thinking of Onslaught, since Assault doesn't really have resources.

k now I'm just plain confused ..I meant the mode where you have objectives

Well Onslaught has you capturing points with vehicles until you have enough to attack the other base. Assault gives you a giant list of things to complete in order with one team attacking an entrenched opponent. This can include everything from stealing a tank to jumping from vehicle to vehicle on a moving convoy.

oh ok then I played both modes :)

I'm waiting to see if Red orchestra will have vehicles in any of their upcoming releases, so I may buy ut2004 when that becomes a reality

btw I did enjoy UT2 XML (or something like that) that added classes and objectives ...but there is no community ....what little servers there are are empty

I've never had a repetetive experience in the game, ever. There is so much content, so many tactics, so many modes, so many ways and angles to approach every corner of every map, that when you start paying the slightest attention to what's going on, it's practically impossible to get bored. :)

There is class-based combat, in a way, with vehicles. Except you can change class without respawning. :p

oh thank god! i thought ut04 editor's edition was $39.99 for everyone. But its free to all owners of ut04? KICKASS!

I just bought Unreal Tournament 2K4 yesterday. This is quite a pleasant surprise.

Good move by Epic. Expands their player's base and consumer loyalty.
Mmmm, magic word: Free. :)

CS: CZ is the same to CS as UT2004 is to UT2004....

CZ was a lot more evolved comparatively....

Excellent. Been enjoying UT2004 for months already, and to find out this updated version will be free for previous owners is just icing on the already sweet cake. :)

Wow, this is great. UT 2004 is already the content king and Epic keeps making it better.

Cool! Might have to actually play UT2K4 again now! Gotta love the onslaught mode.

How are shops going know if you own the game? I presume you get from a shop.

Download it? AWWW i've got a crappy connection! Whens the whole of britain ment to get broadbaned?

I would actually buy it if Fable wouldn't be coming out on Sept. 15th. I may still buy it someday later.
