I have just bought a new computer for work, and games (I do minimal video editing and lots of Photoshop and Fireworks) and until HL2 comes out I need a good game to play. I like games that have good storys, and since I did just buy a new computer I would like a newer game that would show off my new system nicely. Preferably a FPS or 3d RPG that is single-player based. My favorite games are: half-life, dues ex, morrowind, system shock2, and thief.

here are my specs:

-Pentium IV 2.8ghz w/ 800fsb and Hyper Threading
-2x512 samsung PC3200
-ati Radeon 9800 pro
-ASUS P4P800-DX

Thanx for any suggestions, again preferably a 3d RPG that stress graphics and has a good story.

Here's one for ya...

FAR CRY

so over....rated....-barfs-
my say: pick up ut2k4 (get red orchestra) or BF:V both are exellent titles

I hate to say it but, I would really rather play an rpg, thanks anyway....

If you haven't played Morrowind, it will keep you glued until HL2 is out :D Teh best evar, it got GOTY a while ago. Pick up the GOTY edition so you get both expansions.

bah, if you want a good RPG try Gothic 1 and 2. Underated and amazing games.

I played Farcry demo and I didnt like it... cept for the graphics... perrrtytt :bounce:

gothic 2 looks like a morrowind clone...
Trust me i've beaten both and they are a completely different genre of RPG. Plus Gothic 1 came before Morrowind and Gothic 2 is much closer to the feel of Gothic 1.

Its alittle older but max payne2 is a really good game, ohh ya far cry too

Thief III, it comes out in two days, will be good for sure.
Far cry, don't bother, it's one big eye candy with a lot of plastic men running around and HORRIBLE plot, storyline, characters, voice acting, writing... etc.

Whoa, that one snuck up on me... makes sense, I guess... heh. :)

Woooohoooooo... damn I need to learn how to save money... grar....

Oh, and BigGoose, no new RPG's are worth playing. :P

The last good one I played was Icewind Dale II... other good ones are Morrowind and Neverwinter Nights... and I assume everyone's played Planescape: Torment and Baldur's Gate II by now...

But I do have to say this... DON'T GET LIONHEART! I must take every opportunity I can to bash this game. It's my duty.

Max Payne 2 - Has nice graphics, and the story is great
Halo Combat Evolved - Has nice graphics, story is ok
Half-Life - very dated graphics, awesome story

That's all I can think of right now..
I would stay clear of Battlefield games IMO they are horrible..

I saw Theif 3 a while back and never gave it a second thought, could anyone who has been watching that tell me if it looks good, or maybe after they've bought it they could e-mail me? or post something here

Oh yah, I have played Morrowind, but my current computer is crap and the graphics looked horrible (the screenshots on good computers look awesome though) besides, while I did like Morrowind a lot (it was in my list!?) I found that the small number of enemies got repetitve, as well as the millions of simple quest you had to do to work your way up.

AND, on top of that, my CD got ruined, so would it be worth it to buy the GOTY w/ bloodmoon and tribunal? Do the expansions just add more areas for the first game, or are they seperate games, like the Neverwinter Nights Expansions? Are the expansions any good?

I beat Halo on Legendary... lol, I didn't include it on my list because it just didn't do it for me, dunno why not though.

I will post my first impressions on a day when I get a game, with screenshots, so you can wait for that if you are interested.

I have heard of that. Is it only online? or does it have a good single player also?

:dozey:
R-A-I-N-B-O-W S-I-X 3: R-A-V-E-N-S-H-I-E-L-D

^Great single player, greater multiplayer.

Raven Shield, KOTOR, Far Cry if you like it but not if you don't (opinions are divided on that one - personally I love FC) AVP2 if you havne't already played it, and one game which you MUST buy:

Hostile Waters!

This is one of the best strategy games in existence. You can pick it up for a fiver. For an old game it has surprisingly good graphics. The game involves you being in command of a giant futuristic aircraft carrier and not only directing units that you build and cutsomise from a tactical map, but taking control of any one of them whenever you see fit. It's an action/strategy par excellence, with dynamic weather, day and night cycles and interesting mission objectives. It also has a great plot. Got a bit of spare money? Buy this game. I can't stress that enough.

And, if you like a more fantasy spin, buy Sacrifice. Great game, that.

Wow

Wow I now know someone other than myself thats played Hostile Waters.

What was your reaction to the ending with the cores managing to get into space?

if you like a good story and don't worry too much about i being linear, then I suggest Max Payne 2 and Mafia...both have excellent stories IMO.

btw: ThiefIII: deadly shadows review sounds worringly(sp?) and I will wait a few more days and reviews to see if I'll pick this title up...DX:IW put a good scare in me regarding Ionstorm and their ability to deliver ThiefIII.

GRIM FANDANGO!!! YOU MUST BUY IT NOW!! OR I WILL BEAT YOU TO WITHIN AN INCH OF YOUR LIFE, AND THEN I'LL TIE YOU TO A CHAIR AND MAKE YOU WATCH ME PLAY THE GAME!!! It only cost 10 bucks, and its awesome.

time for me to say what I always say

Clive Barker's Undying, and Alien VS Predator 2.

Thanks to everyone for the advice, however I will again restate that I am mostly interested in an RPG (yes I know this is probably not a great place to ask, it being a HL2 forum, but RPG forums are incredibly biased, besides HL fans have the best taste)

I will look into KOTOR, it sounds good.

Also, when reccomending a game could you give a few details about it and why you think it is so good? That would be helpful as I haven't even heard of most of these games.

sorry for the double post

Could anyone tell me about the Tribunal and Bloodmoon expansions.

Yes, they rock. :) I like Morrowind because it's the LOTR of gaming; it's so detailed and has so much depth you could play for months and learn new things. I mean, you just get SO into it.

The expansions add more depth, Bloodmoon actually adds a new continent and ... werewolves! :D You can even become a werewolf.

Morrowind is my favorite RPG, mostly because it's the only one I have played.

Has anyone here played Prince of Persia?

Is it a good game? and also, I heard something about a second one, is there a second one?

Yes, I have played Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time; as a matter of fact, I have it on Xbox. It is an excellent game. It received a 9.4/10 (Editor's Choice) rating by Offical Xbox Magazine.

There is a sequel, but don't expect it to be released anytime soon. The sequel was shown @ E3 and has a much darker feel to it. Expect it to be a lot more mature.

Wow I now know someone other than myself thats played Hostile Waters.

Damn that spoiler, I use email notification and I've only just done that mission where you destory the nests...

Remember, everybody, play Hostile Waters. Or...I'll tell you to buy it again.
