Update progress on Steam after intstalling via CD/DVD

Hi guys!Just wondering. I was thinking about buying OB since I'm a fan of the series. Just a couple of questions first. Is it worth buying just yet or should I wait a little longer for more updates to release via Steam for Portal and Episode 2? No telling how long it'll take for those guys to iron out the wrinkles right? Secondly, how much of the game or better described as what percentage of the game is installed already on Steam if I buy the retail copy? Waiting for Episode One's cache files to download wasn't so bad, but since I use dial-up, and It'll be impossible to wait two days before the cache files are installed, I need to know! I need my PC for other things than games too. Unfortunately.

You get the cache files with retail versions, actually you should try buying it before too many updates are released, the download is smaller that way.
