Hl2 stutterd a lot for me too and had sometimes bad sound quality, so I decided to do everything possible to fix the issue. After updating my onboard sound card (realtek) drivers, the stutter was almost gone.
I know that certainly many of you have all your drivers up to date, but maybe someone could get the game running properly with the same method.

Do you not think that this has been tried by the half a million people active in the OTHER THREAD that you decided your post was to important to be in?

i've got realtek onboard what u upgrade drivers to?

Its all in your head, i wish people would stop posting solutions, there is NO way to get this game running without a patch from valve, the sooner people get that through their thick skulls the faster we can all move on.

Not the way I'd put it, but most likely true. Oh, I've learned from this experience.. that's its not a good idea to go running around your pc changing a whole bunch of crap. You might just forget some of the settings you implemented... then other games will fail. Leave it to Valve, there is obviously still a major problem and they are obliged to fix it.

I consider this as a temporary solution because it made the game playable for me again. There are still some slowdowns which valve must fix though, and I´m not saying that this method would fix the problem for everyone with realtek drivers.
And as a matter of fact everybody doesn´t have stutter at all, so I wonder how they have managed to get the game running properly if there wouldn´t be any way to solve the problem.

I had the stuttering and popping sounds and my game runs perfectly now, I just installed all the audigy 2 eax setup stuff that was on my install CD (drivers only on creative site) then used the driver update (25/11/04) which will only update if u have audioHQ etc on your PC. I also did the read only thang with the auto saves.

I don't even get the stuttering at the start now when u get off the train and the guy on the screen starts to talk and when i walk out of the door into the main city area it deosn't stutter either.

Now running at 1280/1024 with 6XAA and 16XAF and its smooth as f**k.

I still feel letdown by valve and creative (no complete package download on their site) but after playing the first quarter of the game I have almost forgiven them cos its truely awesome.

Are there any new updates that are applicable for those with an Audigy LS? Seems I'm hung out to dry. :(

Just checked out the site.. the new Audigy 2 drivers are just repackaged old drivers:

Sound Blaster Audigy 2 and Audigy 2 ZS Driver Update (released on 29 July, 2004)

With the inclusion of Digital Rights Management.. maybe it did have an effect.

updating all the drivers for your sound, graphics ,agp , mothboard etc should be done..

i still see people posting that they got crashes and stuff and they still using 4.8 catalyst.

Sorry i just don't believe you, it can't be that easy or everyone would do it. Ive updating my sounds card drivers numerous times and i also have another pc with a different sound card and it has the same stutering so there ya go.

P.S. did you use the auto upadte on the creative site? Tell us exactly what you changed in audioHQ and what version of drivers you have and what sound card you have. would help ;)
