The bars allow for more focus to the middle, the site name. However because the bars makethe pictures in the back slightly difficult to see, the new header appears less detailed then before.

I voted meh.

IMO the entire header could use a redesign, currently it screams photoshop bevel. And the transperant images seem randomly placed.

Edit: Why not have a contest to redo the entire site ? Could need it.
