Updating error

so yeah, as you guesses i valdiated steam files of hl2 and was upgrading and it took 6 hours on a 512 kb connection but then when it says updating is finished in the updating window the steam monitor says its still only 99%, and when i launch the game from steam it wont update but it starts and gives teh same fricking memory error at the blury loaading screen ! someone please help me

The usual fix to try for loading getting stuck is to exit Steam, delete or remove a file called ClientRegistry.blob and restart Steam.
