So, I got some spare cash with me, so I thought instead of a Zune HD Ill get a upgrade for me PC. However not sure what way to go with it. Any advice is welcome :D

Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz
4GB DDR2 800MHz
Nvidia 8800GTX

My thoughts, was maybe the new ATI 5000 series, but my CPU might bottleneck the GPU. Or a new motherboard/CPU combo.

I got about $500 to spend.

Overclock your CPU to 3GHz(with a good cooler if you don't have one yet) and get a 5850 :)

In my opinion, do not get the 8800 GTX. I have had 3 EVGA 8800 GTX and the way that they are designed, they run too hot. They run so hot that they burn out within a year. I actually said this to EVGA and they agreed and gave me a 9800 GTX (which has lasted longer than a year). It performs a little bit better but really is a cooler running 8800 GTX.

That's what he has in his computer right now. :p

Nobody should have "needs" like that.

Actually I'm talking out of my ass but I trust Hool's judgement because his avatar is pretty. (Though he won't give me a source damnit)

Get the Zune HD, and don't waste your time on upgrading. Not worth it for the minimal performance gain. Look again in 12 months time.

Well I was thinking that, but I will be getting a HTC HD2 soonish and I can use instead.

Your system is pretty good right now. The only thing to upgrade at all right now would be your video card. ATI's new 5850 should double the performance of your current card.
But like people have already said, you are likely to be better off waiting a little longer to upgrade.

I already told you that it was some member on flamehaus.com. It was his signature and I just used it as mine. I think it was fatty bear but I'm not entirely sure. The full one looks better though.

Your words mean nothing to me.

I require a direct link to the full image.

True, but I think he'll need to overclock his cpu to something like 3GHz to prevent it from bottlenecking the 5850

Ok, well I am now thinking of going for a Zune HD/Ipod Touch, since Ill buy it in the US and take it back to the UK just worried about warrenty and the fact I can't use the radio on the Zune here. Also getting some new headphones also for my PC instead as mine are starting to stop working. I'll leave the upgrade for a new PC sometime in the future.

I know prices were pretty high for Intel's newer stuff a few months ago (CPU+motherboard) so if that is still the case then I would just wait. OC, get a new GPU. Your CPU shouldn't bottleneck a new GPU unless you go SLI/Crossfire and want to display more than 1600x or 1900x resolution (depending on the game).

Who has a super badass PC without a widescreen monitor these days?

Besides Raziaar...

Instead of buying a new widescreen maybe I'll put my 2 CRTs on either side and get a 5850. :p
Can't have less than 1024 vertical pixels. Too small. Would have to spend the money and go to 22" LCD or bigger.

And btw, if you don't want to upgrade your PC getting a zune or ipod touch would be good. My bro has a ipod touch and loves it. Surfs the web all the time on it while he is going around town. Friends house, coffee shop, work etc.

Yeah, it would be good. But torn really. I think my PC might be better way to go.

Oh well if you don't have a big widesreen monitor like a 22", then spend the money on that! I have a LG Flatron L227WTG: http://www.tomsguide.com/us/Monitors-Samsung-LG-ViewSonic,review-1345-7.html Really fantastic monitor that I had to buy a day before L4D came out because my monitor died. You may actually end up saving money in the long run because CRT monitors use up so much electricity.

Well I have a 19" Widescreen. But my sister is in the USA at the moment and I'm asking her to buy the items and then come back to the UK. A screen might be a tad hard to take :p

There shouldn't be an issue of using an American GPU in a UK PC? I assume its all standard?

Standard PC parts. 16x PCI-Express slot and 4 or 6 pin power plug on the end of the card.
The only part of a PC that could be different is the power supply going to the wall since there are different electric standards for wall plugs. But all of the PSUs that I have bought have a 240v and 120v switch. (don't use the wrong one or poof there goes your PSU).

Ok thats good. Well the PSU shouldn't be an issue. :)
