Upgrades...

Not bad. but the amd athalon XP 2800+ 2.08GHZ is better and at about the same price

My sig says I have a gig of RAM but I have 512 MB, but Im going to get 512 more before Doom 3. Should I get the processor or the ram? Please help! :(

Wait. It says that it's a P4A but it also says Prescott. But 2.4ghz is to high to be an A, they were bad P4's but it can't be an A. It says Prescott core so it's a P4E. You should get a P4C also called Northwood. They're the best P4's.

First thing, if you want a P4 you will need a new motherboard. Second, the prescott core runs really hot and performs slower than the northwood core. Thirdly, there is no way to know how well that P4 will overclock, it may go up to 3 GHz, it may not.

I don't understand, if you are willing to overclock the P4, why don't you overclock your Athlon processor? The Athlo XP 2500+ are known for being good overclockers (however, your mileage will vary).

I have already made a 28% Overclock. I went from 1.4 GHz to 1.8 :(

Do you have a stock Athlon XP 2500+, or is that the effective PR rating your overclock is at?

Definately RAM. Nothing wrong with the 2500xp, in my opinion.

Yeah but these new games reccomend like 2.5 GHZ processors and only 512 ram. I dunno what to do... If only I had enough money for both... :(
But will the Ram make up for the lack of Ghzs?

no.

now asus you can come in and take over with your 50 hour long post of details and links and reviews and moral encouragements.

Athlon XP's are measured differently. When games recommend a 2.5ghz processor, for Athlon, that means a 2500+. If they recommend 2ghz or higher, that means a 2000+ or higher. So a 2500+ is equal to a 2.5ghz P4, and a 2800+ is a 2.8. You have a 2500+, so you have the equal of a P4 2.5ghz. So you really are fine. 512 mb of RAM isn't bad, it's fine. You've got a good setup, I don't think you need to worry. I think you said that your 2500+ is something else overclocked, so maybe you should upgrade to a 2800+ or 3000+ for 2.8ghz or 3.0ghz.

You can play HL2 with your current system but it might be more enjoyable if you bought either another 512MB stick of DDR Ram.

Later on, I would upgrade the video card for future games.

Just listen to Asus, you can go either way. Get a better processor or another stick or RAM. If your processor is fine overclocked and stable and stuff then I think you should get another stick of 512 RAM. But you could also get a 9800 pro and sell your 5900 as a 5900 won't run Half-Life 2 as well because of it's bad shader performance.
