I've got a
1700 XP AMD + or whatever
512 DDR RAM
50 GB or so...?
And a GeForce 3 Ti200 128Mb ram

A little hummingbird once told me that I could upgrade my computer by buying one of these:

I've got a Elitegroup Mainboard Socket A board...
Now explain what to do...

EDIT: I'm getting a Radeon9800PRO on tuesday, and I don't give a **** about bottlenecking...I just want a DirectX9 card, because FarCry runs SMOOOOTH at 1024x768x32 and I WANT SMOOOTHER!!! AGRH!!!

yeah best bet is to get a new cpu. if you post your ram speed and motherboard model number myself or one of these other fine time wasters will be able to give you some options :) if it's an old mb it wont handle newer faster cpus. asus a7v8x-x and a 2700+ cost me £110, which was nice :)

Good idea about the graficcard m8! I was just about to suggest that until I saw u had already written u where gonna get it. U probably "only" have rams of 266 mhz when u have such an old cpu, but yeah the mainboard has the same slot as the one u showed right there, however its not sure your mainboard supports the higher speed :-/

I think it's 266Mhz...I think I saw that in the manual just a minute ago...

Usually it shows in the front of the manual but sometimes u have to see it on the motherboard itself (usually between the PCI ports)

Onions, where did you buy that from cos I'm in the UK and may look into that?

It says...

"The mainboard has a Socket-A processor socket for an AMD K7 processors. You can install any one of these processors on the mainboard. The mainboard supports front-side bus speeds of 200/266Mhz.

The mainboard uses the SiS 735 chipset which supports a 4X AGP slot for highly graphics display, DDR interface and Ultra DMA 33/66/100 funtion, procides outstanding high system performance under all types of system operations. The mainboard has a built-in AC97 Codec, provices an AMR (Audio Modem Riser) slot to support Audio and Modem application, and has an built-in 10BaseT/100BaseTX Network Interface (optional). In addition, the mainboard has an extended set of ATX I/O Ports including PS/2 keyboard and mouse ports, two USB ports, a parallel port, and two serial ports. Two extra USB ports can be added using the extended USB Module that connects to the mainboard.

This mainboard has all the features you need to develop a powerful multimedia workstation. The board is ATX size and has power connectors for an ATX power supply."

It doesn't make any sense to me...
Maybe I could just overclock it...but I don't know how to do that either!! **** BEINGS!

GSW - cpu from http://www.cclcomputers.biz, mb from a mate (but it's around £40 now anyway)

Frank - that limits you to an older cpu, 2600+ or thereabouts. i got the 2700+ because it was the cheapest 333mhz. find the fastest cpu you can for a 266 fsb and your sorted :)

either that or get a new mb

Okay thanks! But how do I use it? Do I just plug it in? Hahah...I have absolutely no idea how it works...

EDIT: Oh **** scrolling around on that page, will you please show me the one I should get, thank you :)

I've got an xp 1700+, but it's oc'ed to 2100mhz.

But how... and I don't feel like ****ing up my computer...
