Hey guys, I wanted to get your opinions on a life-or-death decision  . Currently I use a GeForce 4 Ti4200 AGP8x and it runs CS:S at around 40 FPS at 1024x768 with no shadows or AA/AF. For Half-Life 2, I would like to enjoy the game at full quality with everything enabled. My current specs are as follows:

Pentium 4 2.66 GHz
512 MB PC-2700 RAM
80 GB Western Digital HD

On one hand I have my Ti4200, which I can use, but wouldn't let me enjoy Half-Life 2 as much as possible. On the other hand I could spend the $400 and buy a BFG GeForce 6800GT OC and enjoy everything for the next year or two at full settings. Help me decide! Any input will be appreciated   !

go get it if you want to play it the best...oh man here come the flames

Sorry, if I had went with the last generation I would have bought the 9800. However, this time around I decided to go with the GeForce 6800GT mostly because it's the best performance for the price. Your X800Pro is sexy, but I can get (mostly) better performance for the same amount.

Buy another 512 stick of RAM and then upgrade to a better card come the Holidays.

How long do you plan on keeping the system? P4 2.66GHz etc

Thanks for the input :). However, my RAM is generally not as big an issue as image quality.

Oops sorry Asus I didn't realize you replied :). Anyways I'm hoping to upgrade it during mid-2005 right before I get shipped off to the University. I've decided to go with the 6800, and I'm looking for a BFG 6800GT OC.. Anyone have a reliable, cheap place I can find it at?

Note: Sorry for double posting :(

Just that if you upgrade now you probably will be upgrading again with a new system and PCI-Express by that time.
