Hey guys.. its bout to be christmas so I can upgrade my computer. Is there anything that I need to upgrade? my specs are ABITvt7 mobo, 512 ram, x800xl, Intel P. 4 2.5 ghz. I have about $180 to spend but I can't buy online so im stuck with compUSA.

Get another 512mb of RAM. Your processor could be upgraded too, but i don't think you'll have enough money for both.

With 180$ you really can't buy anything at Compusa except memory...
CPU and board would cost you closer to 300$ with retail pricing.

Wait until you have enough money and upgrade to an AMD64 and a new mobo with both agp and pci-express slots, so you can keep your graphics card but upgrade in the future still.

What's the point if he would be stuck with 512 MB RAM? He will see more of a difference if he upgrades to 1 GB IMHO.

He'd see a significant difference if he upgraded from a P4 2.5 to an amd62, say 3000+ or 3200+, likely more than a ram upgrade, if not just as significant. Plus future-proofing his system in the process. Just my opinion, but of course, a ram upgrade would be necessary at some point.

hmm i can get a mobo with agp and pci-e? nice i was thinking of jus getting an amd64 and a new mobo but i would hav to like throw out my old card.. anyways my mom said i could buy a new monitor and that she would save up for me but im thinking of jus getting new parts.... should i get a new monitor or the new parts?

the cpu is nice but u put it in the mobo spot and the cpu spot takes me to microsoft.com

v. nice processor there, and that's what i was talking about, socket 939 mobo's with agp and pci-e, meaning you can keep your X800XL, which is still a great card, and gain further performance from it with the upgrade, whilst also leaving scope for a pci-e card in the future.
