Right, I have 1000 squid to spend on a new PC. Really looking for any advice from those more exprianced in hardware for best value to quality combinations.

I already have the power supply, hardrive, case and such. I'm just looking at the bundles, a new monitor and a good card to be in business.

I've been looking through overclockers and I've gone for these presently, but I'm just wondering if there is any possible way I can get it cheaper, or if there are better deals, or any secrets, like winking constantly at sales people behind the counter. Even if I have to order abroad I'll doo eet, I just can't help but feel I'm being ripped off over here :x.

I'll upload my opinion UP YOUR ARSE.

This is the politis forum. :p

I would just like to say that this is an awesome name for a thread.

That is all.

Oh shi, yeh this belongs in hardware, the combination of heat and work and thinking about my purchase made my brain fumble : O.

I don't know much about PC's but it seems smarter to me to wait for the Quadcore price drop. The Q6600 is going to cost around 266,-.

Consider one thing: If you're getting Widescreen, you'll have to run your games at its native resolution, which is supposedly quite high. But your videocard will more than compensate for that in this case. You know, higher resolution = bigger textures. Bigger textures = more VRAM load.

I say you got a good solution there. One thing, though: Get an external soundcard. This will relieve the motherboard so it can use its resources on other things. It seems minor, but for a game like Oblivion, an external sound-card is almost a must-have.

No. No. No! Do not get external sound cards, you are much better off with the onboard sound that is on the motherboard. Intel HD audio isn't amazing but it is decent.

The most important thing here is what kind of power supply do you have? Look at the actual power supply label on the side, how many amps do you have on the +12V rail. Cheap power supplies that came with your case usually won't power that kind of video card.

I've gone for the 650 watt power supply which should be plenty, recommended was 450 watt for the 8800 GTX, and thanks for the tips so far chaps.. suppose I should wait till the Q6600 comes down in price before I make any sort of purchase on a bundle.

theres gotta be a debate in here if its politics, come on people...

If anything, before this gets moved, discuss the politics of the rip off prices we get here in the UK.
