US Defense Budget explained with Oreos

if only it was as simple as throwing oreos at the problem.

WOOOOSH spend 100 billion dollars on aids and itll be GONE.

I didn't hear aids ever mentioned in that

but it's a very good demonstration, and the guy really knows how to dramatize his ideas, in a good way.

does it make a difference if aids was mentioned in the video or not? its an issue and an example.

please if this was a republican trying to explain the budget with oreos he'd be labeled a tard and there would be a million youtube videos making fun of him with varying degrees of hilarity. this is equally retarded. its not cutting edge or cool or trendy. its just stupid. he's degrading you and you are eating it all up. OH WOW COOKIES! now i can see for my OWN EYES these very complicated numbers and his vague references to "hey look 10 billion here and we can fix THIS". its a crock.

With some of the problems discussed, no, it wouldn't totally eliminate the problem. However, we'd be a lot better off putting resources toward that problem rather than ignoring it. Not only that but I think we'd vastly improve our suffering global image if we showed some ****in' compassion for those that are less fortunate.

Anyone remember President Eisenhower's speech:

"In the counsels of Government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the Military Industrial Complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists, and will persist. We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals so that security and liberty may prosper together."

We've failed to heed his warning and now we're suffering the consequences. Something has to be done.

If a Republican was telling the truth then it really wouldn't matter how he/she presented those ideas as long as they got their point across. I don't think it's retarded or "degrading". His visual presentation was unique and fitting since the guy is the founder of an ice cream franchise. Additionally, this ice cream dude wasn't just pulling this stuff out of his ass. It's mentioned at the beginning that the data is from a new report about defense spending.

Money won't fix anything, but you can't fix anything without it.

The most interesting (scary too) thing about that demonstration was when he explained just how many nuclear weapons you have... :O

Seriously, do you really have that many?! Thats enough to destroy the whole world about 100 times over by the looks of things. D:

Yeah, they've got that many. Isreal has around 100 Nuclear weapons (actual number unknown as the Isreali govenment refuses to admit to possesing these weapons), the UK has about 200 and France a similar number. The Russians have around 10,000 nukes, not sure about the Chinese but I would imgaine somewhere around 600. The US nuclear "deterrent" seems to be aimed at dertering the entire world several hundred times over.

LMAO does it make a difference if its aids or something else?????!!!!!

Lets see here, aids = a disease without a known cure
Hunger = a condition that can be solved with money to buy food with...

Uh yeah, it makes a difference.

How many nukes does the US have?

in the video he said somewhere in the hundreds of thousands, but he was dead wrong on that one.

According to wikipedia we only have around 11,000 warheads.

What I think he was talking about was the power of those warheads equaling in the hundreds of thousands of hiroshima bombs.

Yeh that's exactley what he said, shocking really that just isn't right atall.

It's obviously a result of the very rich and wealthy groups within the military industrial complex (weapons manufacturers etc) trying to expand their buisness seemingly ignorant and without a care in the world for what their relentless capitalisim does to their country and others.

Isn't it like being stuck in the mud with this situation? these groups don't want to give up their profits but the more money they get the more power and say they have over the political situations which inturn keeps them in their high seats dealing weapons.. making war. Not to mention the possibility of corruption within the military industrial complex, especially with that amount of money flowing into it.

It seems like one big mess, because it's obviously not quite that easy as to relocate large parts of that money to other more public sectors. Shouldn't congressional bodies recognise this inbalance and unfairness and try to correct it anyway? whats the deal? it's as if no authority actually cares or can be bothered to do anything about it.

Aren't those congressional bodies filled with the people who are creating the imbalance in the first place?

That's alot of oreos! I never seen it represented that way. I say we add 5 oreos from the big stack to everything else on the left.

And give me a couple oreos too... but not oreos... 10-30 billion dollars.

But you can never have enough nukes, right?

The next time someone is turned away from a hospital in the US for not having medical insurance he/she can limp away safe in the knowledge that the governement has enough muscle to destroy every life form on the planet many times over.

It's a nonsense.

I fail to see how this makes any sense, if the gov't knows about all this stuff then why dont they just adjust it like the cookies?

last i heard the USA spends only approx 4% of its budget on military expendetures.

And yeah we got nukes, assloads of nukes. You can thank the cold war arms race for that, we were flexing our might against Russia, who was doing the same thing right back.

So exactly what is the big deal here?

The White House Says: about $440 billion for the Department of Defense, plus about $35 billion for the Department of Homeland Security, and here's the complete chart (right at the top) for comparison.
Holy shit. You can axe defense spending and double pretty much everything else.
I wonder though, how much of that defense budget goes to military personnel paychecks and Air/Army base maintenance and services. I used to live on an Air base (Eglin) and there is a lot going on.
