I always thought branches like the FBI and CIA were for people in law enforcement working their way up the ranks. Or someone from the military or one that excelled in a specific field in college and were looking to go into that line of work. In other words, it was for people "in the know". But lately I found it weird to see commercials for both the CIA and FBI looking to hire people. Really strange as this part of the government is usually more low key/behind the scenes type deal. Didn't expect to see an advertisement for them on a national network.

Well I know the CIA is very quiet once they actually start talking to you for hiring. They tell you not to tell anybody but your family that you're even applying let alone working for them. They also want a college degree or very good military service.

The FBI pretty much requires the same but I don't think they need you to keep it as quiet as some of the work you'd be doing is publicly known.

Yeah, I saw a TV ad for the CIA last night during Mythbusters, and I've heard FBI ads for "Special agents" on the radio. Found it really odd, but I guess they just need more people.

The FBI I imagine isn't all that secretive, but the CIA is, and sometimes they don't let the applicant tell their family what they do.

If you find orchestrating regime change, strong arming politicos, wheeling and dealing with terrorists (or freedom fighters depending what day it is), torturing suspects, rendering foreign nationals and just causing general mayhem exciting then the CIA is the career for you! I wanted to join the FBI ever since I was 7. Bought countless books on the subject of the FBI and crime in general.

Some reason, I lost all interest last year.

You are watching too many movies! You are thinking 007'esque (but american of course), admit it. :)

Actually it does sound quite stressfull but exciting. My brother had applied at the CIA this summer (as his 2nd choice job) and made it past their first few interviews. They told him he shouldn't tell people that he's applying or even being considered.

Pending a few more meetings and interviews he was going to be a Staff Operations Manager or something close to it. In a nutshell he was going to coordinate spies' assets and transportation, and whatnot. He'd be the guy in the movies going, "Here's your identity, ticket, transportation, gear is going to be here, blah blah blah, etc"

He didn't keep going in the hiring process because he didn't want to have that kind of life not being able to talk about work with his wife, family, etc. The level of secrecy he would've had to keep would've hurt his relationships in life so he took the smart route and got a normal day-job.

They must be... I see military ads for recruitment all over the place.

The military has always been like that. It seems kind of their motto to take any joe blow off the street and give him/her the proper training and "make a soldier out of them". Where as the FBI and CIA I would imagine you already have training and acquired a high level of proficiency in your chosen field to be hired in.

I don't know, I always thought the FBI/CIA were the pinnacle for top military and law enforcement personnel. Posting a public advertisement like they're doing seems like they are lowering their standards or a little low on bodies. I'm sure there still are requirements to be hired by either, but as they state, they are equal oppurtunity employers. I mean how many trained and skilled law enforcement, military, IT or any other professional would not already know about the FBI or CIA if they're interested.

/me cracks knuckles and laughs at korean police in riot gear (and a single hawaiian) while leaping into the fray ..a battle song on the merits of individualism quickly rises in crescendo as a mighty battle between totalitarian evil and a shining ray of hope litters the floor with uniform clad koreans

oh and I dont have non existant skin ..that would be kinda messy/dangerous

and lol @ being charged with a breakdown in societal stability ..I think people have bigger egos when it comes to me than I do ..but if you really need to attach that much importance to little ole me then by all means, break a leg

Captain Stern's skin isn't pale, he's Spanishy.

Personally, I'd love to be the one spying on innocent people.
