this is article discussion only, so no pics. if this is already posted (1) i didnt see it, and (2) lock it if you wish

on with the show:

HL2 is on the cover, with a fake looking Gordon DUEL WIELDING!!! O M G!!! (blatant stab at the Halo fanboys who over-reacted to the Halo 2 E3 movie)

the actual article is... get this.... only 3 pages long!!! what a waste of money ($7) there are 2 wasted pages at the begining of the article. one for another fake pic of gordon choked by a barnicle, and the other for a shattered HL2 logo, then the article starts

if there were no pics, the text could fill 1.25 pages. sad

the pics are kinda new, but not earth shattering. same levels from different angles. one real new pic that looks very '1984' in theme

each paragraph describes a different experience in the game. very cool stuff. talkd a lot about how the physics can actually effect gameplay

thats about it

oh, there is a HL2 advertisement on page 13. so simple, its mind boggling
----------------------------------
for a very hard rating magazine, this month if full of great reviews... like we didnt already know these were great games
Far Cry - 95%
UT2004 - 92%
BF:V - 90%
splinter cell:pT - 90%
sacred - 82%

yeah it's strange, when I was reading the pc zone or whatever's hl2 preview, it imediately gave me a 1984 vibe. But I think gabe has said that it wasn't an influence... :imu: haha, no smiley to indicate what I was feeling...

oh god, what a waste, i cant see how pc zone get over 10 Pages and this POS mag gets only 3!

PC Gamer rocks... thats kinda sad they only have a 3 page review... ah well, they still kick ass

what three levels did they play? the same as PC Zone?

EDIT: Are you serious?! my site is banned? Why? because we host screenshots?

this is absurd. I mean, i understand rules, but when you start punishing your readers, and preventing them from seeing other information, then you've started to cross a line.

testing:
http://www.google.com
http://www.3dgamers.com <--they have the new shots
http://www.bluesnews.com
http://www.ve3d.com

i can find the news shots, and even (gasp) beta shots on thos sites. why aren't they censored?

if it's about the scans, they are gone. there are no more links to scans on my page... is that clear?

Bah, WTF. I'm a subscriber to PCGamer (US) and haven't gotten my issue in the mail yet. You were able to buy it from the newsstands? I always thought they sent it out to subscribers first. Guess I was wrong :sniper: PCGAMER.

God, whats the point of subsribing? Lol, i just go to my local chapters and read it for free.

...man im so cheap.

Are you sure its the US virsion, i usually get mine around the 7th or so

Damn it I was looking forward to receiving the us pcgamer in the mail with a kick ass preview. Oh well at least we still have E3 to look forward to.

I thought the PC Gamer with the second half of the HL2 coverage wasn't coming out till May 13th?

There's a difference between the US PC Gamer and the UK PC Gamer.

The US PC Gamer is just now coming out, with the new media and all
PC Gamer UK had the same promise, only they couldn't delay the issue until the 29th (when the NDA is lifted), so they made a "2 parter."

yeah, i work at GameStop (not that it partains to this) and it was sitting there on the rack when i went into work today
i was just as suprized as any of you would be to see it there. i thought the NDA was until April 29th. so i figured the mag would ship the 29th

same here, i thought the second part of the HL2 info is coming out in may. im guessing it will have about as much content as PC zone.
i just checked out the new screens at an actually reputable gaming website, and the one that shows all the combine soldiers looking at you in the room from the PC zone preview looks sick. i cant wait to play that part.

I think the "two part" thing was just PCGamer UK's problem, not US PCGamer's.

Guess everyone skipped over my post :)

I had a feeling that HL2's story would be like 1984. The first clue was a screenshot back in April 03 of the civilians lined up against the was while a combine towered over another lying on the street.

I'm reading 1984 right now and thats WAY more sci-fi then i'd expect HL2 to be, with the Thought Police and all, but i can see the similarites you're talking about. It'd be cool if it was kinda like 1984 but i hope it isn't

Wait..... Half-Life is less Sci-Fi than 1984.... did I read that right? I dunno I see 1984 happening before I see a Half-Life scenario happening... either way, I wouldn't mind seeing elements from 1984 in Half-Life 2... either directly or just by chance, 'twas a good book

Wait, It seems like you all have read the mag, and I haven't, UNFAIR!

Anyone ever think that they on;ly devoted 3 pages to hl2 because they had already done a massive cover feature on it?

and that hl2 isn;t the only reason people would buy thier mag...

So what do they actually say? For instance, someone said the article mentioned how physics actually play a crucial role in gameplay scenarios. Care to give any examples? Any other juicy tidbits that folks might want to know about?

Ok I'm still confused. So that May 13th release date for the PCGamer covering Half-Life 2 was only for the UK version? So the US one covering it is out right now?

Yes sir.

I bought PC Gameplay today, and I was happy to see that the reporter actually wrote a good piece about his "hands on" experience. It really gave me an idea of how HL2 feels. But tbh, all the screens are from the BINK movies or arent really worth looking at... But a good article i guess...

Yeah, I think Valve must have let PCZone play the two new areas they are showing off, and the PCGamer Us/UK people got only the e3 vid areas.

in the last issue's preview of this issue, they hyped this story up like it was going to be huge.
and then they put HL2 on the cover of this issue. this is a cover story! cover stories should be more than 3 freakin pages

by putting HL2 on the cover, it sure makes people more likely to buy their magazine

I thought the stuff about the fire and how it will spread through out the whole building if you start one was cool....

Any subcribers get there HL2 issue in the mail yet? I checked the local 7 eleven and they had it but I haven't received mine in the mail yet.
