"Spellings (Education Secretary), who has been charged with the difficult task of fixing the nation's troubled public education system, took time out on her second day on the job to fire off a letter to PBS CEO Pat Mitchell expressing "strong and very serious concerns" about the "Postcards From Buster" episode. Specifically that, in the episode, called "Sugartime!," the animated asthmatic little bunny visits Vermont and meets actual, real-live, not make-believe children there who have gay parents."

they're taking this "family first" nonsense way too far

make no mistake this is discrimination

god some of you are beyond reproach

cptstern, you are the worst of them all ..it'll be a good day when you are finally banned for making one too many flame-bait threads

as a human being you have very few redeeming qualities

Anywho, I dont think PBS should try and tackle the gay marriage issue by bringing children into it. Let them deal with it on more mature shows aimed at adults.

the gay marriage issue has absolutely nothing to do with it ...on pbs side of things. You didnt read the article, they just happend to visit a farm that the owners just happened to be gay ..it was incidental

oh and btw the show is aimed at pre-schoolers ...my 15 month old son would probably enjoy it ...I'll ask him if he knows the 2 women in background are gay

stern: "hey junior! look those 2 women are homosexuals, can you say H-O-M-O-S-E-X-U-A-L"

junior: "goooooo"

"god some of you are beyond reproach "

 I don't think that word means what you think it means.

Did you even read the cite? The show says nothing at all about gay marriage. It goes around the country, visiting different real kids living different lives. This particular child has two women as her parents. The show doesn't try to "tackle" anything, it just profiles the life of the girl. The two mothers are entirely background. In fact, most of the episode is about how maple syrup is made, since they all live on a farm. There is, in short, nothing in the show that "brings kids into it." It jsut profiles a real kid.

That you would want to write a REAL child out of reality just to please some religious wackjobs who don't want to admit that gay families exist says more about you anyone else here.

It's wrong to be gay in so many ways(in my opinion). But then, as humans we have the right to make the wrong choices(as long as we don't cause harm to others). So I'm both against homosexuality and I support fair treatment of homosexuals.

But this doesn't bother me. They are funding it in part, and if they don't want to feature alternate family structures with their money they have a right to file a complaint with the people they are giving money to. I would be unconfortable if my money were being used to feature ideals contrary to my own also.

Sorry, didn't mean to step into the middle of another CptStern vs seinfeldrules showdown.

ya but it's the government's money: your money ..do you really want that agenda pushed on a kids shows?

edit: apos hehe we pretty much said the same thing less than a minute apart

whoa whoa whoa, lets just calm down guys. No need for anger and saying people should get banned. chill

Hey! Brassmonkey, my absolute favorite Doom troll like EVER!

It's easy to make up offense at this or that. But the only thing the government cannot promote is religion. Other than that, I can't see legitimate grounds for an objection here. The show does profiles on real kids and their families, and this was a real kid and her real family. What you are asking is akin to saying that government grants that go to public radio shouldn't allow news to be broadcast of the existence of anti-abortion people since I don't like to hear about that. Nonsense: news is news. This particular episode fit just fine into the premise of the show.

Why would you bring heavy issues like ******* into a Kids show? Hell Saturday morning cartoons isn't the time to bring in normal sexuality...

No wonder kids are twisted.

Bring back Wiley E Coyotee (IB PETA says OMG)

And you people claim that it is homosexuals who are trying to thrust sex into discussion. These people are just living normal lives raising their child and running a business, and all you people can think of or talk about is their sexuality.

Why should gay people be blacklisted from existence?

Yeah no wonder kids are twisted, they have people like you
spouting such hateful slurs as "********"...

If you read the article, the sexuality issue wasn't brought up by the show, it was brought up by the educations secretary.

This is harmless. I can't believe some of you people object to this.

I guess you people would prefer it if there was instead a show that showed the live degradation and execution of homosexuals 24/7. Yeah, that would certainly be healthier for the kids. Nothing says "morality" like stoning those of a different sexual orientation!

jeez amis are so stupid sometimes just let the gays be gays OH THEREZ
A GAY PERSON MY KID GONNA BE GAY TO NOW jeez giv me a break we never had a problem like that in Germany

I dont have a problem with the show -- what I have a problem with, are the two sides of the arguement trying to shove crap down my throat. If I feel like taking, dish it out -- when I dont, you can take it.

No one's trying to shove anything down your throat. Real kid = real family = real life. Get it? That's the whole premise of the show is to visit all sorts of kids all over the country in all sorts of different places.

However, the idea of "OMFG ACCEPT TEH GAY", or "OMFG DONT ACCEPT TEH GAY". Get it? Reading pretty every other post, concludes in such ways.

I already knew the premise of the show -- yet I never argued about it once. So, how did that come up? Misinterpretation?

the kids gay parents weren't an issue on the show, so how did you come to the conclusion that someone was trying to make you "accept teh gay"?

"I already knew the premise of the show -- yet I never argued about it once. So, how did that come up? Misinterpretation?"

You claimed people were trying to ram things down your throat. But no one did that, and it seemed like you weren't clear that the show wasn't pushing "teh gay" on anyone, just incidentally visiting a kid that happened to have gay parents. Besides, you're already the king of misinterpretation as per the evolution thread. :)

Apos, I think that you have pegged me into the wrong catagory. I wasn't "asking" for anything. I wasn't even saying the show should not include the family.

Should have known better to post in this thread

Homosexuality is something that should be addressed at the same age as the traditional birds and the bees. When a man and woman kiss or are married you don't shield a child from that. You shouldn't shield a child from same-sex relationships either.

And don't use the "bad influence" card. Contrary to popular belief, witnessing same-sex relationships doesn't "turn kids gay". If anything, the intolerance is the bad influence. And I'm sure statistics show that the vast majority of gay people have come from traditional families.
