My PC case has a front USB ports that broke because they're cheap and crappy so I need to replace them in order to use it again. The front USB ports are a USB header soldered to a PCB. I can't buy this component seperate as it's just some cheap generic thing so I'm going to have to repair it.

My first plan was to remove the USB header from the PCB and then replace it with a working one from an damaged motherboard. After trying to desolder the broken one I released that this wasn't going to work as I'll just end up damaging the good one as I try to desolder it.

I'm now looking for a USB header component (I that's what they're called). I need the actually metal bit and not one of these.

I've tried places like Maplin and eBay but they don't seem to have them or I'm not looking in the right places. If anyone knows any place that specializes in electronic components then I'd appreciate if you could tell me. :) I live in the UK so I might not be able to buy from some US/over-sea stores.

If your just after getting usb ports on the front, rather than specifically trying to fix the existing ones, most multi-card readers have a couple of usb ports on them, which can sit in a 5 1/2 bay.

If you are only interested in repairing the existing ones, them I'm afraid I have no ideas.

I don't have a cable that has two USB ends.

Oh wells, I guess I good get a bay, never thought of that. If I fail to find an end then I guess I won't have much choice anyway.

Thanks for the help.
