Whenever I'm playing steam games, they'll freeze at random times to the point that I have to restart my computer.

When I do, the BIOS hangs on a USB check, it'll say "[Number of] USB Mass Storage Devices detected." and then hang.

I've gone through all the USB settings in the BIOS and I can't fix it.

Halp? :(

try starting up the computer with no USB devices attached

once windows finishes booting up completely, then attach them and let windows recognize them

worth a shot

That was the first thing I tried, and even without any USB devices attached, it will hang in the BIOS too.

When you restart do you hit the restart button on the PC or do you shut it off and immediately turn it back on?
Do you know for sure that it is still scanning USB when it freezes or that is just the last thing it displayed (and it could be scanning something else by now)?

See if you can disable USB modules in the BIOS.

I doubt you have a separate USB card, but if you do, re-seat that bitch.

Also make sure you don't have 'boot from USB' enabled in BIOS

make sure you have USB legacy support enabled in BIOS (though this really shouldn't matter if you have no USB attached)

finally open up control panel>system>hardware>device manager and make sure the Universal Serial Bus stuff doesn't have any problems.

None of this will work, but it's a process of elimination.

I think maybe it's something stupid like a video card driver error causing some glitch. You should check for an update or go back to the last version of your video driver.

All your ideas didn't work, I'm starting to think it might be software related?

When you restart do you hit the restart button on the PC or do you shut it off and immediately turn it back on?
Do you know for sure that it is still scanning USB when it freezes or that is just the last thing it displayed (and it could be scanning something else by now)?

No idea if it's actually hanging on the USB, in that case. It's the last thing displayed.

Only steam games doing it? Anyone else having this problem?

It's really strange, I have to admit. I would try to rectify anything that might even remotely have a chance of being the problem

uninstalling certain software or drivers - especially if this is a new problem. You may have installed software or drivers, or did a registry cleaning or something that caused it.

maybe your video card is crashing and dying?

dying motherboard? bad capacitors, bad solder?

buy a USB adapter (put in expansion slot)

enough power for your video card?
