Before I read Gabe's email about his 22" widescreen apple monitor I thought it was impossible to connect a PC to an apple monitor.

I really like the look of those apple screens and was wondering if there is a converter or something, or an s-video input in the monitor or something. Anyone know?

And going along with that, is there anyway to get an apple keyboard and mouse to work on a PC? Because those are pretty cool too.

Yea it's possible. The Apple cienma display uses a ADC plug instead of regular DVI.Why?Because it is dvi just that it has usb ports that connect from the monitor to the computer witout taking up any usb ports.Dr.Bot makes ADC adapters that have DVI plug at other end.But the problem with connecting the display is that you won't have the options of like adjusting color and stuff because the cd that comes with the display was only meant for osX.

Well does the color need to be adjusted? I've never done that with any of the other monitors I've had. I just need the basics like contrast and brightness.....I will be able to control those things, right?

Yes brightness and contrast you can control. But the fact the cinema display is so good it doesn't need it's color adjusted. So don't worry.Just get that Dr.Bot adapter thingy hook it up then there you go.No need to fiddle with it or anything.

Thanks man, but I'm not going to get one now, all of my monitors are currently functioning properly, but I probably will get one next summer and I think that the apple monitor might be worth it.

What about the keyboard/mouse? Are they just standard USB peripherals?

I dunno about the keyboard and mouse. But I think they should work on your comp. But if I was you I would save the money you was going to use on the Apple display and wait for OLED screens when they come out.

Well....yea...but not shit....your probally talking about passive oled screen.I'm talking about active oled screens. There going to be better than any crt monitor and lcd screens. Also there going to be a little bit thicker than a dime.Don't diss it yet.Go to google or yahoo and type in Oled screen, monitor, or just oled. You'll find articles that talk about how great this screen technology is going to be and that it is going to revoultinize media.

I've read quite a bit about it a couple years ago, its just no one really eemed to want to launch it.

When is it coming out?
Why is it better?
Whats a price comparison?

When is it coming out?
Well no one actually knows. But I think I heard sony(i think) said they should have a 15" and 17" inch oled screen out by late 2004 or 2005.

Why is it better?
Thinner
-Durable
-Fast response times(faster than and lcd screen)
-More colors,More virbrant colors, and very correct color reproduction(better than any lcd or crt)
-more energy effiecent
-require no back lighting(like lcds) so it meas there thick as a dime
-way better contrast
-better multi-angle viewing
-better brightness(can get high as 500cd/m and even higher in future!)

Price comparsion?
Well no one knows quite yet but they say by 2006 they should cost around $400 to $600 for a 19in....but thats just a guess. There coming up with new ways to create them. One company is experimenting with printing oleds. If this happens they should cost a whole lot less.

The oled layer actually makes the light itself.I doesn't use an actual light like and lcd does. The organic leds do it themself.Just go look it up at google or something.

sounds like i might look into them! $400-$600 for a 19"? thats seems pretty good comparing to the $2000 20" lcd screens out now.

o will the oled have blurring and ghosts like the lcd does?

No like I said before it they should have very fast response times by the time they get to full production.Only reason why most lcds have blurring and ghosting is because of the the resistors that controls the pixels aren't fast enough. The lowest response time on lcds right now is about 12ms.12ms you should not be seeing any ghosting or bluring. But the first full production oleds should have a response time lower than 10ms.So keep your eyes out for them in the future.

I want a tru-flat screen monitor...to darn expencive for a 17in though!
