I need to use steam to play on the LAN. I do not have an internet connection is it possible to do that....?

Any replies are welcome... Thanks in advance...

Yeah, all you need to do is install steam, make sure you have all the games fully updated etc, then put steam into offline mode. If that computer can't update the games, you may have to burn the .gcf's to a dvd from a computer with internet access, then onto the other computer. Also if you own Half-life 2 it needs online activation, before playing. Once this is done, and the game is updated, it doesn't need an internet connection.

Thanks for the response..

I have installed steam which came with the condition zero cd. but when I start the game. It says checking for updates I need to avoid that.. how do i do it. What are gcf's where do i get them from and how do i make sure the game is updated.

gcf's are game content files or something.
Anyway you can find them in your steamdirectory\steamapps.
(Not sure what default directory is cuz mines customized.)

Just copy all the ones there onto a dvd and replace them on your other computer. I've backed up my whole steam thing, reformmated and put them back on there with no problems at all.

if u dont have an internet connection theres no way to use steam

You need to let the game update before you can play.

To summarise everything. I cannot use steam without a net connection

But I may install condition zero with steam and get it updated on a machine with net connection. and put the same updated files in a computer without a net connection and it will work fine right?

Let me know if my interpretation of ur messages is correct.

Because if that is the case i can get the game started in that way...

I hope after copying the updated files it doesnt search the net for newer updates.

On what basis does it search the net. Can i tweak the registry or something so that it doesnt look up on the net and assumes that the current version is the latest...

Umm.. it might work. Let the game update fully, then copy the GCF file to the new computer.

Friends... Thanks for the reply... I'll try that and let you'll know if it works that way... Incase any registry tweaks available, please do let me know...

I copied the steam folder from a machine having a net connection onto a machine not having a net connection. But still when i start steam it checks for updates. Please let me know how can i avoid this check for updates.
