"Republican Representative David Hogue in Utah is placing videogames in the same category as pornography. Instead of proposing a new bill focusing on videogames, Hogue's amending a current bill prohibiting the distribution and/or showing of pornography and explicit nudity to minors with an addition of the purchase of videogames with "inappropriate violence."

"I feel real strong that violence should be in (the statute)," says Hogue on his reasoning for the bill. "We need to give parents a tool to protect their children." What Hogue might not realize (or ignores) is the fact that every bill like this has been shot down by the courts for being unconstitutional. It shouldn't be long before the IDSA is filing a suit over the bill."

yet any kid regardless of age can flip on the tv and see scenes of violence far worse than any video game on prime time television ...CSI is far more gratuitous then any game I've played in the last 20 years

Iowa isnt doing all that much better:

"Democratic Representative Janet Petersen. "Do we really want kids spending their free time trying to decide who they want to murder and how they want to murder them?"

Although i agree with you on the policy, one hour of condemned will make you a believer that Video games can be quite grateutous, even i stopped playing condemned at some parts because it was so fvcking twisted, also maxpayne is another prime example of very gorey gameplay, BUT MORE BLOOD = MORE FUN

max payne? I didnt think that had excessive gore ..still no video game compares to an episode of CSI or A Baby Story, or Medical Miracles etc

btw I'll have a chance to play condemned soon enough ..its just been announced for pc

Except for in video games you're role playing where as with TV shows you are just viewing. But that point could be debated as it has no scientific basis.

You must be a shut-in, sir. Never played Max Payne, but Condemned was not all that bad. Fantastic game, too.

I don't understand the difference between horror movies (Silence of the Lambs) and horror games (Condemned.) Nor do I understand the difference between crime movies (Resevoir Dogs) and crime games (Grand Theft Auto). I mean, the obvious difference is the interactivity... but if you are to follow the mindset that video games make people want to murder and steal... then why not ban movies?

Hell, while you're at it, let's ban books. And magazines. And pretty much everything that makes life bearable.

HERE HERE!!!

SOF 2 is still the most violent game by far. Man that was a fun game. You could shoot someone int he neck and they'd gurgle and choke. If an explosion blew a window in at someone, they'd be running around imbedded with glass shards. So cool.

Personally i hate it when these stick up the ass politicians go around making arbitrary decisions on what games people play.

I don't know what version of CSI you've been watching but its pretty tame compared to MaxPayne 1/2, Halflife1/2, Doom, GTAetc. Actively killing simulated characters, sex with hookers, violence, violence, violence is a lot different then Grisom explaining explaining common sense to his inept staff.

While there are a lot of retards, it's not a strong trend or anything, and there's a reason it always gets shot down either in the voting process itself or by the courts.

scre those religous whackos, bah thinks like this make me think that alota americans are kinda dumb .

Posts like that make me think you're dumb.

Making generalizations about a country's population is also dumb.

As funny as the end of that post was :)laugh:), the new CSI's that I've seen have been far more gruesome than any game I've ever played, ever.

well lets see ..I've seen more than a few decapitated heads, limbless torsos, decomposing babies and enough gun shot/knife/blunt object/pokey thing wounds to last a lifetime ...ya cartoony violence in video games is tame in comparison

What the hell CSI have you seen? I don't remember even half of that.

Haha I live in Utah , and this stuff isn't really a big issue here, hell I wasn't even carded to buy Soldier of fortune or grand theft auto at wally world when I was 15. Just don't get the preception that Utah= MORMONS OMG VIOLENCE NEEDS TO STAY OUT ROFLROFL11, the only people in my sate who propose this idea that violent video games is the same thing as pornography are the soccer moms and Molly Mormons.. and of course its the same soccer moms who buy their preteens damn cellphones, that buy them violent video games without even understanding whats in the game until they wait when little susy or bobby blow up hookers.

You're right!! Not once in a videogame have I seen or participated in a shooting or decapitating something, unless there's some new version of tectris i havn't heard about. I'm sorry, but ive seen more severed limbs after one grenade blast in FEAR then in any season of CSI. Decomposing babies are pretty much the only thing there that you won't find in wide supply in any FPS since DOOM, but the 7 hours of CS I'm about to play will more then make up for that.

And Halflife 2 , protrays no less realism then you average episode of well...anything not on the discovery channel. I'm not so sure Medical Miracles can be classified as violent, all its about are rare surgical breakthroughs, sin't it?

No shit, Inspector Gadget.

:(

I don't see any particular wars being fought over or because of video games. Religion, however...

you're right. We video gamers must begin a jihad against all the soccer moms and jack thompsons of the world to proove that video games don't make us violent, as we triumphantly stand on the piled corpses of our enemies.
