Valve and this forum

Is this forum ran by valve ??? Do the moderators and administrator here work for valve ??? Is there any other forum where I can hear some non-biased opinion and information on what valve is doing now ???

This is one of the oldest, and in my opinion best, HL2 resource out there. It's not affiliated by Valve at all, although Gabe Newell, CEO and Founder of Valve software often posts here to keep us updated on the status of HL2 and happenings within the world of Valve.

He's never posted anywhere else.

This is the busiest forum too, so if anything's going on, you'll most likely see it here first.

No it's not run by valve. It's maintained by a group of avid Half-Life fans who just want to provide a site for the other HL obsessed freaks out there.

Busy, yes, but unfortunately you have to wade waist deep through 9/10's of bull **** posts in order to find a useful, coherent post.

There's nothing new to talk about ;(

I'm not debating that, I'm just commenting on the negative quality of posts that frequent these boards.

I'm guessing that when this beta stuff dies down the offensive posts and threads will start to disappear. But you've always gotta take the good with the bad.

Maybe busy ourselves with little competitions for fun, like that one in the art section, maybe have ones for map making, coding, model making, mod idea's, tutorials (since HL2 is clearly similar in area's to the original for map making then some tutorials can be done even at this stage), isn't it always the case that once you start doing something else, the thing you were waiting ages for in the first place happens.

Like waiting for a kettle to boil, sit and watch it and it'll take forever, start reading the paper and before you've finished the first page its boiled already.

We all get busy on stuff and suddenly the game, SDK, extra's are all out there, we've all got our fancy ATI cards and everyone is happy, and then we can look forward to the inevitable surge of "wHeRe I do download warez HLII plez, I am at skool & cant pay s0 many monies TIA!" posts ;)

It's not that you're lying... It's just that you're fooling yourself. When threads get started in the HL2 Discussion forum about postcounts, and dosn't get closed (or even better, deleted), a forum cannot be the "best" forum.

The definition of the "best" forum changes from person to person. To me any forum that has mostly intelligent members and discusses things in an intellectual matter while bringing people from around the world closer together is what my definition of what the "best" forum is.

For HL community forums this is the closest you can get that is both popular and what my definition is of the "best" forum.

If you can ignore the really stupid threads and focus on the more intelligent discussions that go on here then yes you could certainly call this the "best" HL2 forum out there.

After all this is a major gaming forum, stupidity by many who join is to be expected. I don't mean to say anyone who posted in this thread is stupid mind you.

Gabe has posted, I believe, on the halflifesource boards.

Wow, one of you said the dreaded hls word ;) lol.
Well, if this means our war is off (or at least subsided heh), well, in that case (if not ignore this, bastards ;) :p lol), in all honesty, I have to say he hasn't posted in our boards. We got Eric Smith at one point, and I got to talk to Gabe (remember, I'm the loser who went to Valve and didn't get "any new info" :/), but he hasn't posted yet.

He had pictures...kind of stupid to fake those.

Myself and Andy ( and indeed the two sites ) settled our differences a while back now :)

Both sites on good terms :)

Very good ideas - If anyone has some interesting competitions in mind then please share them with the rest of us :)

I still remember the community hl2 map with lots of peoples avatars in - was excellent although I never found all of them ;(

Well, it's certainly not bad, a lot of good posts with good argumentation, but a big forum also attracts a lot of morons. They kinda give the forum a bad name with all those delay, leak and stupid theory threads.

have you got a link to that, wouldn't mind having a look, or is it in some of the older forum posts

@ D33

what do u think about a bannercompetition? hl2.net sets up a view "musts" like size and theme and here we go:)
greetz

Valve needs to give us some good, positive HL2 news. In recent weeks, all conversations are based on two words - DELAY and THEFT.

Those are two VERY negative words in the video gaming world.
