[br]Although we have known for a long time that IceFrog has been working at Valve heading up a team, we haven't had any official word from Valve about the development of DotA before now. You can see the newly registered trademark application here which was made only a few hours ago. The current status being:
Newly filed application, not yet assigned to an examining attorney.
[br]The application is registered to Valve Corporation with the address of their new offices they moved into late last year. We still know very little about the game which was originally a mod for Warcraft 3, however it is likely to suit the modified Source engine used for Alien Swarm which was released free of charge last month.[br]Thanks to Riomhaire for the news submission.

Here's to hoping they pull a LoL and not a HoN.

This could be good. Anything Valve is good.

Welp, I'm just interested in seeing if they'll take it farther than what the mod had to offer, and I want to see if they can make it a full title. If it turns out like Alien Swarm, I'll be happy too. If that's the case, I hope they'll be adding more content to both on a regular basis.

silly for Blizzard for not picking this up. Anyway Blizzard and Steam would be awesome imo

I'm sorry, how did this happen? why are valve dirtying themselves with warcraft game development in the first place?

I hate all warcraft-related gameage, its shite. and many people who play are supernerds.

Son, you're on a HL2 fan site.
You are a nerd.

I'm going to have to disagree with you on believing everything pertaining to Warcraft being shit.
World of Warcraft has basically tainted the series' name since that's all everyone usually thinks of when you say Warcraft.
I mean, it's not really a bad game either... it's well made and beautiful and fun to explore.
It's just filled with kids and casual gamers and they're the ones that give it a bad name.

The RTSes on the other hand are probably some of my favorite games ever for reasons that I can't really say other than I've been playing the games since the first one blipped into existence.

I can't make out if you're a large troll or just a fair bit daft.

This development could be interesting. Since tower defense games seem to have become a rapidly growing genre, albeit with little deviation from the original DotA, I'd like to see what Valve could bring to the table.

I'll make you a deal. No-one here makes you play it, and you don't have to worry about it.

Sound fair?

I hope is not a tower defense thing,I hate those

actually I'm just a guy who casually enjoys videogames waiting for the advent of episode 3 through this website. I don't think anyone who really knew me would describe me as a nerd.

yeah I used to own this, and thought it was crappy.

You're an angry, angry child.

How about tower defense with bases?

its just that I dont like the game mechanic of puting defenses ther and there and wait till they kill the next horde of enemyes ands things like that

That's not how DotA works. The bases are pre-built and you play as heroes.

I was rather surprised when Valve filed their trademark too. Of course, Riot are Trademarking "Defence of the Ancients" but Valve have trademarked "DOTA". Perhaps they're making a game with the abbreviation DOTA but a different full name. I would prefer both remain in the public domain but to be honest, of any major developer to own it Valve are probably ones not to abuse it.

CVG have posted some really bad Valve news over the past few months, including the E3 surprise mis-read and the other stupid faked Half-life 3 images, so don't get too excited.

In fact Valve have done similar things with all their games, trademarking and registering domains of games they may need in the future. This is means nothing.

...How in shit's name can you make a trilogy out of a game type...?

I don't thing Valve are going to run with the fantasy style, instead keeping the game type and sprucing it up with new environments and variants.
