Ive had it with this shit !. i payed for this game, and i expected i could be playing, but ive been trying to get the game to work 16 hours now.. WHAT THE **** !. Valve is selling non-working games, that is ILLEGAL !

So now im wondering, if there is a way to crack hl2, or steam someway, cuz my patience is gone!?

my problem is the game wont load up at all ... i cant even get steam to load up to unlock the game and validate my cd key ... NOTHING WORKS!

ive unlocked my retail. when i launch it loads for a while then stops, nothing happen.

Half Life 2 Is Bending the truth

Half life 2 is Bending the truth

On the half life 2 box (DVD Retail) ... on the external ... it does not say that Half Life 2 requires internet activation, thefore you are within your rights to complain! ... they are bending the truth!

Hmmmm. It took 5 hours yesterday to get activation on steam for me. I will write a longer message about this later (after work). I guess this is the most anticipated game of the last 5 years so I expect me and 1 million other people all tried to activate at approximately the same time :). Now I'm activated however, I have to say this game is fantastic (no spoilers!).

btw: I bought it at a "Game" store in the UK, I was told when I bought it that it (1) required a DVD player and (2) required internet connection for activation/validation.

valle lots of people not able to play m8 due to various problems whether it be activation , memory error bug, sound stutter problem, crash to desktop yada yada

Tell us a little more about the problem... if its an existing problem please contribute in one of the ongoing threads.. I'm in the same boat as you m8 I cant play the game either at the moment due to it crashing at intro or about 30 seconds or so in to the game with the memory error bug :/
Try and keep calm :) it doesnt help the old ticker getting annoyed over a game... hopefully we can all help one another
out :)

edit Valle noticed you say that it wont start up ... you dont notice a windows fatal error noise do you before it crashes to desktop? if this is the case its probably the mem error bug ... sometimes the error msg disappears :/

Failing that I also read somewhere that you need to check steam has downloaded all of the HL2. If you have retail I guess this shouldnt be an issue. however may want to check...

Best of luck m8

Not sure what country's version you got, but on my box if you look at the bottom under Minimum requirements > Other it says Internet connection.

I dunno Budgie... you'd think that Valve would have a support rep onto this like a fly on shit. Participating in these forums, or starting one up their own on their site.

They don't even HAVE a support section. In fact, on their "Products" page, Half-Life 2 isn't even listed. Woeful.

There seems to be no word of support forthcoming from Valve, and that's what is making me refuse to buy this game, at least just yet. Maybe after HL2 Service Pack 2. :)

I really feel for everyone who bought this game and can't get any joy from it, or support from from Valve.

If Valve is pushing to bypass the distributor (eg. Vivendi) by using Steam, to make more money, then they should also take up the support responsibility that comes with distributing software. The SteamPowered "support" section is just a searchable FAQ.

Shame, Valve, shame!

Again... check the back of the box. "NEED SUPPORT WITH THIS PRODUCT?"

Yeah, i bought 2 Half life 2´s..wasnt that kind of me, instead of getting pirated. but im getting really frustraded because of the lack of support they have, and yesterday the server problems, first of all none of those problems would have existed if Steam never existed,, the dumbest invention ever..

So the intallation went exactly as it should´ve. And it says i can start the game in offline too if i want too, 100% downloaded and everything,, should be just to start the game and start kicking some alien ass.. but it loads for a few seconds, its like the cd is defect. If i buy a game im looking forward to be able to play it.. but its been almost 20hours now.. what am i supposed to do, sit and wait for a patch?.. Ive read everywhere different things to do to start hl2, but none of em work,, ive reinstalled hl2 6 times, and unlocked it 6 times.. Not helping . So as far as im concerned all i can do is to wait for that patch, and valve should repay me atleast 50% of what i paid for the game, and give me a few mods for free.. Cuz this is just over the edge.... i feel so ripped of
