i personally am a bit more of a hardware guy myself> wasnt unil my buddy in software here at the university told me that the source code had all the tasty lil secrets that the valve company had used to make hl@ the best damn game ever did the whole thing become pretty darn important> some damn hacker gonna make a lot o monies

that might be one of the most unreadable posts i have ever seen... the hacker can not sell the code, at least not to anyone that would make a game out of it.

so.. back to my idea..

You know about locking all headcrabs from being able to start threads??

it makes perfect since.. they can't start threads, forcing them to get active in teh community and see what other threads there already are, and what kinds of things get posted. before they are givin the privelege themselves.

No hes not, some person will review a game and see the same phsyics as HL2 and then ask them about it and what will they say? Uh, we made it. Then when VALVe gets there hands on it, the sueing begins.

i doubt it. I mean it take more than just skilled modelers , and artists etc to make a great game. You might forget but the guys in Valve are probably some of the best in the world. A few of them were like top microsoft programmers for years. Their artists are taken from some of the best games ever made like dukenukem3d etc.. Their whole team is like the elite's of programming, artists, software engineers, managers , sound guys. So if the hackers were that good they would make their own game?

to competition? maybe to use goodies without paying homage to valve?

VALVe would know there code in a game if they played it.

Maybe not just headcrabs. How about people that can't form valid sentences, or use proper grammar?

I'm a headcrab, but I'm no noob. Who says that just because they post more that they will come up with decent subjects?

This is not a flame at Quotidian--- it seems like a decent idea in "theory".

Too bad network security isn't part of their repertoire.

it would help, even if it's not perfect...
you obviously can't screen for grammar skills without some sort of essay submission...lol :D

but it would also prevent people from making an account just to post some crap and then never post again :p

if they have some really important info, they could pm or email it to someone who isn't a headcrab....they could lower the requirements for making it to zombie too, if they felt it was too much :p

it would defenitely lower the huge number of double threads, etc.

yeah, i think i've started uhh...2 threads? or was it just 1? there are plenty of discussions to be had without starting new threads :p

sounds like a good idea however Gabe is a headcrab in effect and if that system would have been in place he maybe would have posted on another board ;)

true...but headcrabs can still pm admins with important info...

they could be made to be zombies by admins if they're not retards or something :p

Make money?! The source thing as far as I've heard is all over the goddamn net now, nobody will be getting ANY profit out of this.

Good idea that would put 5 times the work load on the Admins.

i think head crab should start a rebellion against those who want us out of the way!

I'm always down for a good old fashioned revolt. Now, where's my pitchfork...

pms can be ignored/blocked...and when i said make em into zombies, i meant important people like gabe.

I would say stick to the topic, but the topic can easily be discussed in one of the other 1252626115 source code threads...

That's a useless idea which would encourage yet more spam, and who is to say these people don't have valid points or opinions to voice. An idiot is an idiot no matter what his/her post count is.

lol - it's the ppl who post the most who are talking the most crap.

Maybe only let Headcrabs post?? - and ban ppl with a very high post count, allowing them to find something more productive to do with their time :)

Why is that? if you had your hands on the code what you be able to do with it? absolutely nothing that's what. All of this talk about code being stolen only promotes the game further, Valve is not in "deep cr@p" as you elegantly put it, the only possible scenario is a huge boost in sales. That's all.

you're missing the point. the point is to fix things so people can't make an account just to spam useless crap and then never post again.

it's not about post count, imo. i don't look at a person's post count rank before reading their post...in fact i mostly ignore it. but the number of useless threads started is getting to be a bit much.
