It's finally out for those worldwide people who purchased via Steam so get your Steam client running! Here's the press release from Valve:
October 10, 2007 - Valve, a leading entertainment and technology studio, is pleased to announce the availability of The Orange Box for PC on Steam (www.steamgames.com).[br]
The Orange Box features three top-rated new games by Valve: Half-Life 2: Episode Two, the second installment in the Half-Life 2 episodic trilogy; Team Fortress 2, the sequel to the game that put class-based, multiplayer team warfare on the map; and Portal, the game that blends puzzles, first person action, and adventure gaming to produce an experience like no other.[br]
To bring gamers up to date with the Half-Life 2 universe, The Orange Box also includes Half-Life 2, the best-selling and highest-rated action game series of all time, and the episodic debut Half-Life 2: Episode One-together, more than 30 hours of award-winning gameplay. Purchasers of the PC version of The Orange Box who already own Half-Life 2 and Half-Life 2: Episode One can conveniently "gift" them to a friend from within Steam.[br]
The Orange Box is now shipping to retailers and will be available for a suggested retail price of $49.95 on the PC and $59.95 on the Xbox? 360 console system. Contact your local stores for details.

I would be playing Episode 2 right now, but it is decrypting ever so slowly.
Ack! Steam, you're such a tease!

And Munro, you could probably have posted the news later, no one is going to notice it in at least two days. XP

Is it released in the UK today too? I am at work and i have no way of checking steam.

Uk released in 9 days from now, thats off the shelf in stores.

STEAM is NOW.

Downloading it now, how long does EP2 take to download at 140-200kb/s?

/waits for imported boxed copy. Hell if I'm paying $100 to get it down here, bloody cheaper buying a EU/US/Thai version.

I'm fully updated and were going to play Portal at lunch here (30 min left). Can't wait to check it out! :)

It's brilliant! Much better than episode 1. I don't think Valve were at their best for Episode 1, but Episode 2 is absolutely awesome, and I haven't even got through the first chapter! I like it a lot more than episode 1. And Portal is very, very good too.

Yes it opened up this morning around 8 am. Likewise working, but I managed a bit of a blast on Portal which was funky. Probably a blessing in disguise coming to work tbh, because the HL2 EP2 was decrypting really slowly, typical initial release drain from the servers I guess.

98% done. Come on, come on! D:

How long till Australia can buy the Box on shelves?

<--- creditcardless.

My decryption is sort of like that Futurama episode where Bender will be executed, but instead of a countdown, they have a random number generator. I'm going from like 55% to 65% to 5% to 22% to 10%. I know I'll get lucky and hit 100% sometime. :)

Man... I have to convince my mom that we MUST go get it from GameStop tonight... Any ideas, hl2.net? What should i tell her so that she'll go get it for me? i thought of telling her about the truth that is GameStop won't hold onto it for more than 2 days...

i got school in 45 minutes, and it's only gone up 40% in 10 minutes :|

*edit*

It's not even 40% it's like 25%

It's finally out for USA and UK folks via Steam
wow wow wow.. wait a second. I'm not back home yet (right now at college). Can't wait to come back home and play EP2. Owing the orange box which its release date is.. hmm.. today. After such a long wait. Are you suggesting that because I don't live in US/UK, I won't be able to the download and play the game through steam, although it is released and I own it?!??! And I've been waiting so long to this very day?? are you suggesting I don't have anything to come back home for so I can start downloading EP2?!?!?!?!?!!!!!

Woot!

I wish I didn't have to go to class!

Aus EB Release Date: 18/10/2007

Just the same you're better off getting a debit card and ordering through steam, near 50% cheaper. Then theres my method of purchase which is about 80% cheaper. Although odds are I'll be impatient and get the thing through steam come Friday.

Ah FFS God hates me or somethin!?!?!?!?!!!! :flame: I get up at 5:40AM and it came out at 3AM. I gotta leave for school at 6:40. So I get up and it takes 20min to decrypt. Then I play up to the part of fighting off the antlions. Then I leave for college at 6:40AM and go to friggin college at 8AM and the stupid Chinese math teacher cancelled class at the last minute. I could have played 2 hours of the game! ARGHHHHHH Now I gotta wait for 2 more classes and get out at 5PM. :(;(

Well, it was nice to find out at 3:00 this morning that I had a bad DIMM. After troubleshooting I had a heck of a time trying to play a game in Vista on only 1GB Ram. =(

Besides that though, PORTAL absolutely rocks. Brilliant Valve! I can't get enough!

Hey - Did everyone see that you can purchase Portal, EP2, or TF2 separately?
Portal is $20, TF2 and EP2 are both $30.

Perhaps I missed something earlier, but I thought that you HAD to buy the Orange Box to get these games. Glad to see that Valve didn't decide to do that. (For other folks of course.. I <3 my Orange Box)

All the evils of the world escape!

I haven't played yet :(

I got to play for an hour and a half this morning. Episode 2 was awesome already, a bunch of great scenes right off the bat.

Im also already stuck in portal, and i just freaking got the gun (ie, like 3 minutes in). So that should be fun haha.

Now i need to wait 15 more minutes for my class to get out, and i can go play some more!

wow, Apos is still alive.

Portal is tongue in cheek, I love it :burp:

Howcome the UK gets the game earlier than the rest of Europe?

After finishing the story mode of Portal, I have strong doubts that Episode 2 would be a better experience despite being longer. Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised. ;)

GLaDOS's sense of humor is so bad it's good.

I like how they did the opening. If Valve ever did a HL movie using the Source engine, I would pay for it. I really don't think an outside company or real life actors could do it.

meh... have to wait until the 18th... :(
but i know it's worth the wait...

My week and a half of avoiding the EP2 and Portal sections and being careful in the SP scection now begins!
