Valve is continuing its mission of slowly absorbing all the top talent in the video game world by hiring former Blizzard and Loki Software developers Sam Lantinga, Phoronix is reporting.

Sam is known for creating the Simple DirectMedia Layer (SDL) library, an open source cross-platform wrapper that allows the user to write multimedia software that will work on multiple operating systems. He also worked on various Linux ports of games like Civilization: Call to Power, Tribes 2, and Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri and was the lead software engineer at Blizzard. He also worked at the recently closed 38 Studios, developers of Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.

Sam is joining a team at Valve that includes none other than Gabe Newell himself and they will be busy porting Steam and Source engine games to Linux. Hopefully Sam's expertise in this area will speed things along.
