Well since you're going to be a smartass about it to blah, I shall be one to you, firstly, this damn thing was showing what people had in there pc. Yeah funny that most had mx440's....show how some people won't put in good cards, but you wouldn't know that would you? Secondly the mx series is a pile of trash, no other words can describe the card, I bet a gf2 mx400 is way better than one of those. And finally, ATi best cards aren't on the list, nor is Nvidia's, so yeah you make yourself look like a dumb shit when trying to flame someone when its pos cards at the top of the list.

i wasnt flamming maybe sarcasm but blahs reply was obvious and if he didnt have anything to add it would be better not to reply.
If the thread is old or uninportant it will eventually die.
There is no need to bump the thread with useless remarks like the one he made it´s not like i said in the topic "NEW STUFF FROM VALVE!!!"

Anyway,

The truth is this i paid good money for a card not because valve said it would be better for Hl2.But i choose ati over nvidia for the long run to play hl2 the way it was coded or whatever.
I just find it funnny nvidia still tops the list.

Anyway piece to you blahblahblah no hard feelings.

As for disturbed your nick suits you well

Most computers made around and before the survey was taken made by Curry's, PC World and Dixons (here in the UK) had MX cards in them, my mothers computer has an MX 440, im sure allot of the people taking this survey aren't using their own pc's, they are using the pc's that are in the home, that their parents have bought from such crummy retailers.
Not all of us build our own pc's with expensive graphic cards in.

On a side note, BlahBlah was making a valid point, the survey is old, loads of people would have upgraded by then now Halflife2 is nearer release. And stop ranting. :farmer: chill.

Thats true most sold pcs come with crap gfx cards to balance the cost.
But it stills means that 38% of the ppl in the survey 956900 use bad gfx cards.

Remember that them people are only using them pc's to play halflife1 based games, a very old engine, im sure most people won't even try to play HL2 on an mx440, they'll bug their parents for a new packard bell... with the shiny new Geforce FX 5200... (still a bad gfx card, but it'd run HL2 and thats all they care about :).. afterall they aren't buying the computer.)

Oh let me guess, its really hard to afford a FX 5600 or 5700 card, right???

Yes it is very very old, theres no point to this thread really. Its something that shoulda been discussed months ago.

If Ati doesnt see a great increase in sales because of HL2 maybe they will stop this joining up with dev teams.

First off, I thought it was for the CS:S hardware info.

Secondly, don't need your sarcasm. Didn't you see the smile on my damn post. Take a chill pill next time.

Third, The MX400 series is a cheap card. It is on most "high" end consumer PC's (like the dells and HPs of the world)

Fourth, ATI only became a contender after it released the 9700 series of cards. Before that ATI was a substandard player of the graphics card market to Nvidia and 3DFX.

Fifth, Valve has six million reasons (read: $$$) to endorse ATI

Sixth, the price of a the R300 series has been cut in half since the hardware date. More people are buying these cards than before the survey date.

Seventh, high end cards only count for 10% of all graphics card sales. It doesn't surprise me that so many people own a MX400 or 5200 or 9200.

1 & 2 no need to argue i´ve put that behind me

3 agree but that line of gfx doesnt run half of the current games in medium detail

4 the 9700 was an error by ati the board profit margin was to low it cost them to much to produce compared with the selling price

5 Also true but if there isnt a great increase is the money they paid worth it?

Taking into acount that most people buy there PCs from Dell/Hp etc..

and those computers only use nvidia parts....its not suprising at all.

Expect that to change soon. ATI has some interesting mainboard solutions coming up. If they are adopted by Dell or HP, you will start to see more ATI cards on these PC's.

I've been gaming since the times of the original Voodoo. ATI has always been a step late or had horrible drivers or something to keep it out of the spotlight. With the 9700, the hit a home run. While the profit margins were low, they gained a lot of brand awareness and loyalty. With the Valve deal, ATI has firmly cemented themself as a real player in the graphics card market. ATI's relationship with Valve has giving ATI far more than ATI ever really expected. It was worth every penny for ATI to develop a relationship with Valve.

Sure but not directly to do with sales of the boards maybe then to somehow be associated with a game like HL2.

Are the sales near 50% ati ,50% nvidia in the market?

Nope. Technically Intel dominates ATI and Nvidia (even when they are combined. In a purely gaming sense, right now they are about even. ATI probably is leading right now because they are having better luck getting their new graphics cards out onto the market right now.

If ATI keeps up the pace that they have set, ATI will be Nvidia's equal in a couple of years. You just have to wait for all those people who have MX400's to upgrade again.

ATI posted a dramatic jump in sales and profits (go look up their financials) for the R300 series. Part of this jump is attributed to the R300's beatit when tng the snot out of the NV30 in terms of peformance. The other reason is that HL2 was bundled with the 9600 XT and 9800 XT. The average consumer doesn't really know to much about graphics cards, but here is a picture and a coupon for HL2 (on of the most anticipated games of the past decade), people are going to put their money and faith in ATI.

ATI building a relationship with Valve was critical. If ATI would've been able to do the same to ID software, Nvidia would be really hurting right now.

I really hope none of the two get the lead and manage to destroy the other.
We need a third vendor for gfx cards to spice up the market

2500 posts blah congrats
