Valve targets October for Episode Two, TF2 and Portal

So its October now.

F**k the consoles holding back the release date.

Well, if they want to compete with Halo; it's their choice.

Why the console releases can't be completely separate is beyond me.

'Valve plan for October release'

**Valve's sneaky, REAL release date, after they find a hair out of place on one of the characters - Jan 2008**

I think Halo 3 release date news has to do something with this delay..

And where did you pull that from? Wrong.

Also, this is not a change of date, it is simply more precise. It was fall.

Well...it could be that. But I feel better blaming the consoles than blaming Valve for being so darn lazy. :)I remember Doug saying somewhere that we wont find anyone in the office before noon. But ultimately we will end up with a better game of course.

And on many previews it was slated to be released in September. Now its October. Thats a change of date to me.

What I think is since Valve appears to be very relaxed on meeting deadlines their people may not have the mentality of "I got to do this done right before X date" but just " I got to get this done right".

Quality and speed of delivery is both important. Valve excels on quality but lacks in speed.

Yeah it almost defeats the purpose. Yet at the same time, everything i've heard about Episode 2 says its the best Half-Life game there is. Actually i'm pretty sure that quite a number of the latest previews have said that exact thing.

And since episode 1 was easily the best Half-Life of the series (and probably the best FPS ever for me, despite its length) you just know Episode 2 has got to be amazing.

Episodic obviously isn't for Valve (it only works if you've already gotten 2 done, really), and if I'm not mistaken they have came out and said that themselves? Shacknews or something.

Sad to say as valve fan.

Early 2008 put a monkey on it.

O the pain.

I understand the wait, because they are working on three games after all. I just wish they would release Ep2 separately on Steam once finished (presumably, if it gets done before the other titles). Ep2 is really the main attraction for me.

Last I heard, Episode 2 is what's holding them back, with Portal being the most finished.

I hope they release TF2 as a pre-order bonus a la CS:S Beta with HL2.

Do you think they will let us play one of them after preloading and prepaying like HL: DMS with the Ep1 package?

Do you really believe that having to simultaneously develop the game for 360 and aid in the development for PS3 didn't slow the PC version down at all? Come on, of course it did.

Console shmonsole.

The console shouldn't have the priority. Just release that Black Box (or was it Orange?) in October, and the PC stuff during the summer.

Ok yeah good they are fine tuning it, but noone can deny it is at least slightly iritating that we have had to wait 16 months for a mere four hours (but awsome) gameplay, i dont beat around the bush, for FPS experts, the game will be around 4 hours I think.

we need something
TF2 Preorder gift would be awesome, or a tech demo
didn't valve say we will get new tech demo in the summer or something like that ?

I remember reading that on dailytech i think..

I didn't say, in very specific terms, it hadn't. I simply said regardless, Episode 2 for PC is not finished, and therefore it makes no difference.

I seem to recall an interview where Valve said that the 360 version was only a week or two behind the PC version, and the PS3 version a bit behind that. I could be imagining things though. Either way, none of the games are completed yet so don't say the delays (this isn't a delay BTW, autumnish was already announced) are only because of the console versions. Valve have also said that if one or two versions are done and the other(s) are well behind they'll release the versions that are done first.

NOt bothered. My life doesn't revolve around this game, so I don't care when its relased.

That should be a nice birthday gift... but it prob will turn into a nice Xmas gift with Valves rep with releasing stuff on time. We can only hope though right?

The later the release date, the higher chance of getting a new computer that will be capable of running Ep2 with the highest details and stuff without a glitch ;)

Ofcourse, as a HL2 fan, waiting for another episode is frustrating, but... playing it on my current config would be just unfair to the developers ;)

One more thing. Episode Two is in the polishing stages - to me, it sounds like tweaking enemy placement and number, location of health and ammo, aligning textures on walls and models, fine tuning animations, finding the right sounds and hours of testing... yeah, that could take even longer than October :O

Okay, so if they say itll be out in October, we should get it before the heat death at the end of the universe in 10^100 years.

It will be a early christmas pressy if it is october or latest end november. But we will soon find out.
