In comments made at the 2005 Digital Interactive Entertainment Conference in Kyoto, Japan, Robin Walker, Valve's Design Manager, stated that the company is working on "cooperative building games." Walker stated that an example would be "[building] something like a space ship or a machine with people online instead of shooting and killing each other."

Discuss!

Personally I'd like to see more innovation in PC gaming. It has been a while since there has been a really original game. It's all standard fps, rpg or rts. If Valve needs testers I am game ;)

Interesting but HL3 is prefered!

Hmm... I find this interesting.

TBH, I'd like a game where I could sit back and relax in a cooperative environment instead of beating the crap out of everybody.

..... Garrys mod?

I'd prefer not to crash every five minutes, and I'd like a goal of some kind in mind as opposed to "LOL CHECK TIS OUT I GAVE ALYX A DIK".

I can understand the co-operative play, but where does the competition come in? Maybe you have to build faster than the other team or sumit. And where's the fun? It would have to be pretty freeform I guess.

Exactly.

LMFAO.

Even tho i have much respect for Garry's mod. Now that i think of it they might work with him and make it a full scall game. That would be awsome!

Do you have the latest GMOD because mine never crashes and I make comics all the time with it.

Sounds good. Remember Valve... finish Half-Life first!

I don't care much for innovation, as long as the game is fun - i.e. Halflife3 - then I don't care what the game does...

I agree with Zeus, garrys mod never crashs when i put a dick on Alyx.
Jking of course, it crashes all the time when I do that!

(No I don't actually do that, infact I don't play Garrys Mod to much).

TBH that was the last version I played. I can't play HL2 or any of its mods any more. But I can't imagine that the online experience with other players has changed all that much.

Only because it crashed every time you tried to weld a mechanical penis to Alyx's groin :p

I'd like to see a polished-up Gmod. If it turns out to be good enough, I'll pay full price, no questions asked.

screw that. give me innovative ways to kill people and im happy.

I'm all for innovative violent ways to kill people, but a cooperative building game sounds like it would be tons of fun and something entirely new.

Not to mention, it would be top quality as well. Because, well you know by now.

Stealing the idea of things like JBMod and Gmod eh?

Yeah, using the idea to come up with a multiplayer concept. Give builders the boot with the gravity gun (if they are not working hard enough)

couldnt we just build a spaceship and use it to kill each other?

Heh.

Because that's the kind of features you'll get: Doesn't matter where he got them from, just make sure it's in there.

As long as you don't have to build houses! It would be a sore deal for those who are in the building trade, come home after a hard days building just to sit down at a PC and do some more building!

In all honesty, the reason why shooting aliens and people is so fun is because we can't do it in real life. As soon as you try to model games on real-life is about the time your game becomes boring. Though of course, you can't build spaceships in real life, unless you're working on a Code Black project for the U.S. Government. As long as VALVe try to reward the players in some waky way to keep it interesting then I'm all for it.

Was going to newspost this when I first heard of it, but I fell asleep. :(

It's certainly interesting.

This is indeed interesting. I just hope story still plays a large role in this new project of Valve's. MMO's tend to be very competitive, if everyone had to cooperate that would be a different theme entirely. I know you can team up and form guilds and whatnot, but it is still competitive on a large scale. Except ATITD, that did get boring quickly though.

I wonder if you're building in a persistent world ..... It would be cool to build immense structures over time.

And altho I'd like to see what Valve comes up with I wouldn't mind if they threw in some fire-arms. Imagine an online FPS with extensive possibilities for base-building .....

I'd love to build me a starship, hopefully you can make all the rooms, hallways, etc.

that would be cool, especially if you had a feature where you could mold stuff like clay aswel, and if there was different types of propulsion technologies that you could build your ship around.

I wouldnt call it stealing :p since the engine allowed G mod to happen.. also one of the first E3 techdemo's had the physic's cannon, im sure valve could see it happening way before dr evils other son came along.

Wow, I hope there is still some killing and maiming
