Valves next game, crossplay?

I swear I've seen this video before.

Looks.. Interesting.
 
supposedly some people (like smash) have tried it at valve studios and it works extremely well and is very much fun
 
it looks cool but I have no idea what it is...
is it like a singleplayer game where every now and then another player will come in and co-op with you, or you might be fighting against other players put into the position of "enemy"?

or is it like an MMO that is mostly PVE?

I dont think they would have chosen that way to present it if their ad department had ever been to an anime-con.
CrossPlayer = Crossdressing Cosplayer = Male dressing up as a female character.

But anyway, who knows wtf this will be about, we'll just have to wait.

It sounds interesting, but they're going to get a massive hype machine (aka massive disappointments) quick unless they reveal what it is exactly.
 
I was kinda thinking mmofps too, but not sure about that
 
It sounds like either an mmofps or a co-op game?
 
it sounds like it's a single player game where you could join other players playing the same instance/game level you are ...if so it's not original. Age of Conan's single player game (it's a MMO, the first 20 levels are single player) allows you the option of joining up with other players in towns who are playing the same single player game you are ..so at any time it's just a matter of walking through a doorway in order to join an instance of an area populated by other players
 
Well, it hasn't been done in an FPS now has it? Also I'm sure Valve's game will recieve far more attention, I've never even heard of the game you mentioned.

Let's just wait and see what it exactly is. and it's not Valve's game , more like a game that they take a small part in. Seems smaller than the part Valve has with Left 4 Dead.

Well since I'm a gamer... It's a hint that it is probably not a very well known game. I think you know what I mean, Stern. I'm just trying to prove my point, yes there can be exceptions but I hardly see the point in saying it's irrelevant to the issue.

Like if a movie-goer has never heard of a certain movie, it probably doesn't have very good publicity.

Please stop deliberately misunderstanding me when I know full well you have the capacity to. And if you don't understand, why wouldn't you ask me what I meant instead of assuming I said that for absolutely no reason and without considering whether it was relevant or not.

There's nothing to disagree about... The fact that a gamer hasn't heard of a game is an indication that it's possible the game isn't as well known as most other games.

Stern has that effect on me.

It was just hard for me to grasp that he didn't understand what I meant (like I said, there is no opinion in this matter, this is just a common sense thing) so I assumed he was sort of egging me on or jabbing at the fact that what I said has exceptions, which I'm full aware of.

Maybe there is no crossplay in this Age of Conan game you preach about (if it indeed exists), in which case Valve's crossplay concept is indeed original.

Stern isn't preaching about anything - he merely mentioned Age of Conan as a game that possibly has implemented the "crossplay" concept (which, by the way, isn't Valve's - it's by Arkane Studios).

thanks Pi that's exactly what I meant ...jeez some of you will jump all over anything I say ..it really doesnt matter either way because no one has details about crossplay ..we're all just speculating

The idea I got was basically players get a normal single player campaign, but there are many different ones that they can be in and the stories for each cross over each other at points; maybe two of the campaigns invlove the characters working together at some point, while another could involve stopping one of the others as an agent for the opposing side, and there could be other story lines that work outside of or around the two main factions. This would either be played single player, and at level loads it would check for players online that are in a story arc that crosses with yours and connect you and them to a server on that level, or it would be constantly online. So it wouldn't be strictly coop, because your character's story might not involve working with someone else, and it wouldn't just be an MMO because the story would be much more involved than small quests.

Oh, and its Arkane, not Valve.
 
So the main story is offline and it incorporates co-op play within that story through what is essentially an MMO element? well.. like that guy in the video said it will either work great or flop like a haddock out of water.

This sound really cool..yes now i;m all hyped up! :D

I love being hyped up for games..last time i've been hyped for a game was the days of DooM 3 and HL2 lol..

It kinda reminds me of Spore..where it's a single player but you can also travel to other players worlds and mess around with them...if that is what you can do..i remember seeing a video that said that but it was a while ago so correct me if i'm wrong lol :D
 
I'm surprised that Stern is the only one not heard of Age Of Conan as it was posted in here a while ago, i think, but i've heard of it. Think World Of Warcraft in the world of Conan the Barbarian.

You know, it's an MMORPG... It's a genre.
 
I'm waiting for them to really pan out the whole concept and explain exactly what is going on here before I pass judgement, but it does sound interesting. Also, there may be some real originality in putting this idea into a shooter.
 
I've heard of AoC. Just because you have not heard of a game doesn't mean it's the same for everyone. You might not be interested in MMOs so you might not hear of it. The hostility in this thread made me lawl.
