Typical gamer: Oh wow! The Orange Box! Whats this? Two old games? I don't want those! I will give them to my friend, the (Counsel, newbie gamer, checkers player, generic non-hl2 fanatic, etc.) guy!

Friend: Oh goody! Those games were the best ever! I shall get the Orange Box!

Later...

Same Friend: Yay! The Orange Box! Whats this? Two games I already have? I don't want those! I will give them to my friend, the (Counsel, newbie gamer, checkers player, generic non-hl2 fanatic, etc.) guy!

Friend of a Friend: Oh amazing! Those games were the best ever! I shall get the Orange Box!

Later...

Same Friend of a Friend: Woohoo! The Orange Box! Whats this? Those two games? I don't want those! I will give them to my friend, the (Counsel, newbie gamer, checkers player, generic non-hl2 fanatic, etc.) guy!

And so on and so forth forever.

:p

Clever girl.

Shame I know no-one with a PC decent enough to play the games (who hasn't already got them).

edit: Whether the games are 'free' or not, it's not entirely to my taste to see Valve blatantly using their more committed customers as free salespeople. Frankly, i'd take a rebate over the fuzzy feeling of pushing the game onto people any day.

Well, duh, of course. It's called marketing.

I never thought of it that way. It's like a chain letter, isn't it? The types who breaks the chain (don't like HL2 + EP1) aren't very common.

Person gets OB, has HL2 and Ep1.

Gives HL2 and Ep1 to a friend.

Said friend plays, and beats HL2 and Ep1.

Goes on steam and buys EP2.

Cyclic fatality.

they just know that we'll buy it, since we've been waiting eagerly for episode 2 for what, 1.5 YEARS now?

so much for episodic content. I hope episode 3 comes out sometime before december 2010.

Those bastards.
