The gist:
The Vampire Slayer Act of 2006 has been approved by the California Assembly. AB1970, a bill proposed by Assemblyman Lloyd Levine, would force companies to put labels on devices that tell consumers how much energy is being used while the device is in standby mode.
Full Story.

I wonder if the Wii will be forced to acknowledge its shadowy standby existence. I think its a very worthwhile initiative, esp. for California. Thoughts? (Besides Coolest. Name. Ever.)

Why such a cool name for such a boring bill?

Dude, why is it called that and that is the coolest name I've ever heard! :D

I always wondered how much energy my DVD player was using and stuff :)

I assume the name's because a device on standby stealthily leeches power and money. Hence, VAMPIRE SLAYA!

****. I know a couple vampires in california, I thought this would be my legal ability to kill them off.

Damnit.

Yeah, I actually thought some congressman had went insane and was proposing a bill to make it legal to kill people claiming to be vampires :p

And I thought: Americans are weird. :p

Vampire Slayer?

Even so, sounds like a good idea to me - now the consumer will know how much it'll cost him/her through energy bills. If it encourages people to buy more energy efficient goods then that should benefit the environment too.

Well done California!

Sorry, it looks like you are going to have to wait a while before you can kill lawyers ;(

Reasonable enough. But what about the other 49 States and the District of Columbia?

Now all we need is a "Mandatory Energy Labeling Act(MELA)" That lets us legally slay vampires.
