vehicle jumping

Haha, every wondered how much explosive force is necessary to send that buggy cartwheeling through the air? Wonder if a website is going to be dedicated to high-jump records for vehicles in HL2 ... might be kinda hard to jump a tank with grenades though ...

That'd be awesome, lol. As soon as HL2 is released I'm going to make a bunch of stunt maps in hammer. (Driving the buggy off of a building etc :D) Lol, I wonder if people are going to make maps using the buggys to race? =) Oh the possibilities.. :p.

It would be awesome if you can have a person in the passenger seat shooting at the competition. Like Halo. Only better. Or you can use the Gauss gun.

Sudden inspiration! A giant loop-de-loop like a hotwheels track! Wonder if centrifugal force acts on the buggy as part of the physics ...

Ugh stupid questions. Yes centripetal force acts upon the physics, it's only natural. There is no special code for centipetal force, it's just a term we made up. And I have done vehicle jumping in games like Halo, (14 seconds on the WartHog, Booyah!) I already have about 10 maps planned out for physics testing in Hammer. Sooo fun. Soooooo many possibilities. But don't get your hopes too far up, physics plus multiplayer = lag. :(

U guys are juss making me want the game more and more.

If the physics is real, the buggy will blow up :)

It was really fun doing it in BF1942 though. Hell, you could jump the Market Garden river with a tank and a few detpacks! Was a bit hard to control the landing though :p

who said that?

Last I checked there were many indications that physics are to be used in multiplayer, especailly on medium to large objects.

I'm so excited, I just can't hide it.
This is going to be fun....

Hehe!! im really excited in how the physics on heavy thing like cars will be... Means alot to me because i like to drive cars :) Speasially on FPS! when you are able to blow others cars and jump from high places just eraser and evilhegdedog said.

The physics are controlled by a set of known inputs, so mp physics aren't that bad. Sending over the input forces to an object should be enough, havok will move the object exactly the same fro eveybody. Errors come in when somebody bats a box out of it's midair arc. Then you'd have to have some system to monitor the object's location every 5-8 frames or so. Also tweaks like objects with virtual mass < X can fall wherever they want, because they should be set to not affect gameplay.
