Hurm.

We haven't spoken about the Venom film in awhile, but I'm about to make that up to you now.

According to the latest from Variety, Columbia Pictures is currently in talks with Gary Ross (Pleasantville) to direct the upcoming Spider-Man spin-off feature Venom and rewrite the script.

Ross will reportedly start work on Venom as soon he's done with his rewrite of Spider-Man 4. Since the last we heard about the Venom script was that Zombieland's screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick had submitted a draft to Marvel and Sony, it's safe to assume that Ross will be rewriting their work. Though after enjoying the insanity that was Zombieland, I can't imagine that Reese and Wernick's script would require a rewrite of any sort.

Venom should hit theaters in 2011, but it seems unlikely that Topher Grace, who brought the role to life in Spider-Man 3, will pick up the mask again. Besides, it looks like he's going to be busy with Predators soon enough.

That's unfortunate about Topher Grace, I like him. Wasn't he also in Pleasantville?

The only way this movie could be good is if by Ross they meant Samon.

lol no... that's Tobey Macguire... the guy who plays spiderman.

For a while there, I always confused the two for some reason... it was made even more difficult because of Spiderman 3.

Good they got rid of Topher. He was a bad Eddie. Needs a gruff, 5 o'clock shadow blonde bodybuilder to be the lethal protector. This movie better have him eating massive quantities of chocolate, too.
