VERY low fps on a AMD 64 3500+ with 6800 GT running at 6800 ultra speed?!?!

Halflife2 itself seems fine, but when playing counterstrike Source in open spaced for example quite a lot of Dust i get low fps.

Now some of you will complain you have worse, but with my system spec i didn't expect this....

30fps when just running around in open spaces, if there is gunfire it can go as low as about 5fps. If a grenade goes off i get about 5fps again or even lower.

When inside however i can get around 80 - 90, but even that is low for my spec.

Help, are there any things i can do concerning my hardware setup, or failing that, any console commands to reduce graphics madness.

I will add I have everything on MAX and its all recommended by Halflife2 anyway so should be fine.

Thanks in advance,

An annoyed Maniac.

P.S. I have 1mbit internet, so I don't see how that can be causing any graphics lag?!

whats the exact spec and what drivers u using?

AMD 64 3500+
ASUS A8V Deluxe
1GB of Corsair xtreme low latency ram (think its 3200)
200GB SATA hard drive
Gainward Golden Sample 6800 GT running at 6800 Ultra Speed from factory.

Using latest Nvidia GeForce driver 66.93

Anything else?

Something is wrong, i the same setup as you except i have my 6800GT running at stock speeds with everything on High with 4AA and 4AF enabled and CS Source will only drop to 40 odd when there is a firefight in an open area. Say for instance the start of the game in dust on a 20 player server my frames will rarely drop to below 60 unless a firefight kicks off round the corner. So something is up, i suggest bringing your GT back to stock speed and tweaking your setup. Keep in mind that gamers are complaining of lower fps on CS with the last fwe patches valve have released.

i suspect its the latest patch that's messed things up for me. Hallife2 itself is also running slower as well as CS. Just now on Office I was getting 5fps in a firefight.

This is not acceptable. What other things can I try apart from turning my graphics settings down?

Thanks so far guys.

Listen dude if you do a fresh install of XP and install Directx9c THEN your mobo drivers THEN your Graphics card drivers THEN your Sound card and other devices THEN install HL2 and play. If you have the same issue then you have faulty hardware somewhere. Its up to you to narrow it down to which part of your setup is Duff.

I have a very similar setup and have no problems. What version of the VIA chipset drivers are you using? I am using Via Hyperion 4.53. Are you using onboard sound on the A8V? I'm using RealTek AC'97 3.57 WHQL drivers. Finally, video drivers are Forceware 67.02. It would be interesting to see your 3DMark03 or 05 score.

I have the 'goes like hell' version of that card, and it simply wasn't stable at 400/1200 speeds. Try using expertool to lower the clock speed by 50mhz and the memory speed by 75mhz and see how it goes. (Doing this increased my 3Dmark 03 score by 1000)

Specs:
AMD 3400
1 gig Geil RAM
nForce 3
80 gig HD

Funny thing with NVIDIA cards - when they are cranked about 10Mhz from grim death they get slower.

Dunno about ATI - though I have one and have played with it some.
Has anyone seen the same with an ATI card?

BTW, the speed drop looks to big to be because the vid card is close to smoke death. Something else methinks. *shrug*

I'm using onboard realtek or whatever its called sound, but the game was fine until the patch i think. I'm using promise drivers for the sata hard disk, but once again i think its something in the patch that's messed things up.

I'll try toning the card settings down and see.

ALL other games run fine like they did before so its something to do with the game itself.

Yeah.. so unless you were tinkering with other drivers.. it probably was the patch that caused you problems. :X

No Hard Disk?!?!?!

right i can't believe this i need urgent help now please if you will....

I'm typing to you lot from my brother's computer....

I updated the bios for my asus a8v deluxe, the thing is i chose not to clear the CMOS.

I restarted after updating via asus on the internet site and it says i have no hard drive, i restarted again and it said the same thing and then again and it said i had a new processor!!!!!?!?!?!

Anyway, it wants me to set up an array for my SATA hard drive, would doing this wipe my current data on the drive???

This has got out of hand!

Help Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease :(

Maniac618.

E-Mail your mobo manufacturer. As to your earlier problems, something sure is up. I get a reliable ~40fps in almost all cases, never down below 10, and I have an athlon 64 3200+/Radeon 9800 non-pro 128mb. 1GB ram too. If you get your hdd to work again, try reverting to earlier drivers.

Could be a bad case of spyware?

I have practically the same PC and it's smooooooth.

I just laughed at these replies honestly do..

Totally increible and again people will laugh and dissagree with mine so its like a circle of laughing.

Basicly your system is fine, I bet any other game you run can run like a buety in a hot pair of tight pants.

CS:S runs like shit for alot of people, alot of lucky people play it smooth as a mofo but alot get low FPS.

I have following -
XP3000 barton
1gig ram
radeon 9800 XT 256ram

I run Hl2 in 1024*768 everything maxed and 2x aa and fsaa and fps never drop below 40.

In CS:S i get about 15fps at times in everything low.

CS:S is buggiest thing I seen since the bugs in my pants that I left on the door with a slap of marmite in.

Its just shite and stays on my HD unused till its fixed, while the other hand 1.6 roxs still.

Now when I say soure sucks I dont mean its shit in shit game I mean its just so dam buggy with no good bux fixes recetly its not worth playing.

Have fun, dont change ur HD and play something else till source is fixed.

Night night

Flashed my bios and it might have worked.

I've only tested the Italy map on CS, but that was VERY rarely going below 60fps on max everything and with extras on 4x and 8x etc.

I'll try another map later and know if it's fine now.

If it rarely goes below 60 on a map like Italy then you are fine, i get the same sort of performance.

On an A8V you really should clear CMOS after every BIOS update. Follow the procedure in the manual TO THE LETTER.

No shit.

But after you need to set it all up again. Hence (perhaps - most boards to auto-detect by default) needing to know what your doing in a BIOS before flashing it.

I wouldn't worry about CS:S fps too much just yet. As some have said - its a POS and I find that my average frame rates change roughly on par with the price of gold in botswana divided by the cosmolgicat constant.

In other words its weird shit.
