Halflife2 itself seems fine, but when playing counterstrike Source in open spaced for example quite a lot of Dust i get low fps.

Now some of you will complain you have worse, but with my system spec i didn't expect this....

30fps when just running around in open spaces, if there is gunfire it can go as low as about 5fps. If a grenade goes off i get about 5fps again or even lower.

When inside however i can get around 80 - 90, but even that is low for my spec.

Help, are there any things i can do concerning my hardware setup, or failing that, any console commands to reduce graphics madness.

I will add I have everything on MAX and its all recommended by Halflife2 anyway so should be fine.

Thanks in advance,

An annoyed Maniac.

P.S. I have 1mbit internet, so I don't see how that can be causing any graphics lag?!

1280 x 1024. That's not really that high in this day and age is it?

Nope (although you should probably be using 1280x960 for a 4:3 ratio).
Thought you were probably using 1600x1200 or higher. Sounds like a bug or maybe bad drivers then.
Did you really have to post this in two forums btw?

I realised it was in the wrong one so posted it in the right one. If a mod could merge them then great.

I'm using a lcd monitor so the ratio is ok :)

Try downloading Driver Cleaner. Uninstall drivers and reinstall new ones. That would be your best bet. Also, you can try a complete reformat.

turn off AA, that should help. I would use AA in single player and no AA in multiplayer. Screw good graphics in multiplayer. Won't do you good if you're gettin el rapoed

What level of AA are you using? 4x would be more than enough and 8x would be unplayable, by the way.

Not sure why you're getting such low framerates but i'm running a similar system to you (see specs in sig) and i run CSS de_dust at 1280x1024 all details maxed, and 6AA 16AF and average around 50fps rarely going below ~35.

You've probably already done this, but if not make sure you have all of the latest drivers for your hardware (motherboard, graphics card, soundcard etc).

Also what RAM do you have (brand, how much, what CAS latency)?

maybe you got windows in 16 bit and css in 32, or opposite. lol happened to me so thought id just add that =]

hmmm haven't tried the 16 or 32 mode conflict thing yet. I'll check that.

It all started after halflife2 updated itself with the 1st patch.

Try changing -dxlevel to 80 if its on 81.

Uh no, the 6800 Ultra isn't an FX card, it can run HL2 in directx 9, forget that. If you had an ATi card before, definitely use driver cleaner.
