Hey,

Been a while since I visited here. My account was even removed :) When I was here last the Radeon 9800 Pro was the ultimate card for HL2. Just wondering, is there going to be much difference seen if I have an 128MB card or 256MB card? This is for both HL2 and coughDoom3cough :)

Thanks

I would imagine that double the amount of ram would help.. of course, a faster card would make better use of that memory... :D

True. I'm a bit broke though . A 9800 Pro is still gonna be pretty flash though aint it? Shouldn't experience slowdown on like 800 x 600 with highish details?

I have a 2500XP and gig of DDR ram if it makes a difference

I think it would go fine like that... however, I'm no hardware expert ;)

More memory just allows you to hold more textures. If you use AA/AF at high resolutions then you would notice the difference more than if you just ran it at 1024x768 with some AF enabled.

There really shouldn't be a big difference unless you try to run the texture compression setting at 'high quality' on a 128MB card in Doom3. Then the card would slow down.
There really is not a visual difference. Link
Medium Quality is built for those that own mainstream 128MB video cards. Medium Quality still compresses specular, diffuse, and normal maps, but it does not downsample any textures or specular maps. This means you will get the full texture sizes available in DOOM 3, though compressed. Sound diversity is also increased in Medium Quality giving you more sounds per sound effect.
